Starcraft is a bitch to mod because of those uber heavily encrypted mopaq files that blizzard use to try to stop modding. So either bloody good luck to you, or no it's not really worth it.
I tried making a spaceship mod of Diablo II and it made love to me in the curryhole against my own will 'cause my project was obviously too ambitious.
Although having said that, I've seen all sorts of wierd mods for Starcraft. But then again, they all involved quite complex reconstruction of the unit and structure graphics.
