When he said "Everyone knows you don't put a space between the last word and punctuation mark that ends a sentence", he didn't mean everyone here knows that you specifically fail to do that. He meant everyone in general knows that you in general are not supposed to put a space between a space and punctuation mark at the end of a sentence. Make sense? It's an easy mistake. When I was younger I didn't know whether to put space there or not.
