That depends on which 'Dawn of the Dead' you were watching. If you were watching the original George Romero version, then the entire mall/zombie motif is supposed to be a big parody of American mall consumerism. If you were watching the new version... with the running zombies... then not so much. It's mainly just a gore-fest.
