Exactly my opinion on this matter. Giving out warnings does no good. Simply crush the spam on the spot.

We do crush the spam on the spot, the reason you see none is because we delete it straight away. However, the no warnings part is obviously where I'm most concerned. Say we were to not give warnings. But we would PM the member and tell them what they've done is wrong. Okay, good, closed - for the good, respectful members who can acknowledge their mistake.
But, the point I keep coming to, is repeat offendors. If we keep deleting posts, and sending PMs informing them of their mistakes, what incentive or force, do they have to stop? The argument then, is that we ban them. To do so, we still need an established system of banning, so that members are aware of what will happen to them should they break the rules. Essentially, that is how our rules were born. So that people couldn't dispute their punishment, as it is plainly written for everyone to see.
Not only that, but spam is not the only issue, but I can see how any issues could be applied to your suggestion
