As far as I know its true. I wouldn't put it past the guy to exaggerate a few details but I don't think he made it up completely.
I just remembered a radio competition where people had to call up for pissy crimes they'd been involved in. This one guy was playing with his friends when they were kids and they found an abandoned car - without an engine - dumped in a train station carpark. They started pushing each other in it around the carpark. The police arrived and arrested them for car theft and driving without a license, even though they were twelve years old and only driving Fred Flintstone-style.

Nothing THAT bad. Just collecting guns and shit. Not that I would ever use them.
