I had a friend who used to own a set of pellet guns that were made to look like real rifles. He was playing with a bunch of friends when one guy ran out the front of his house for a moment. A neighbour panicked and called the cops who blocked off the road (he lived on quite a major road) and called in the SWAT team (or whatever the australian equivalent is) who were just about to blast in and shoot everyone when they realised that it was just a few kids playing around (completely oblivious to the tumult happening just outside their front door). The SWAT captain gave them a long lecture about how they were bad kids and should be sent to juvi', confiscated their guns and left.
Five minutes later the guys parents arrived home, telling their son about how the traffic was banked up for so long and they couldn't understand why. By the time he told me the story (five years later) he still hadn't admitted the truth to them.
