Actually, Invisionboard allows you to link to an avatar that is not hosted on the forum. I'm not sure how it gets around the image checking and the like. But with vBulletin it takes the URL and then uploads the image into the database instead.
Different forums, different methods of handling something I guess.

Yeh it's like you can add attatchments on this forum but on myne that is hosted by xsorbit.
You must enter a URL and you cannot browze for them.
