Pacen ran out of his cave gasping for breath. He was finding it unusually difficult to breathe, the air seemed thinner and dryer than usual. He had to get out. He leaned against the opening of the cave, trying to catch his breath. To his surprise the rock didn't seem quite as firm as it should and began to crumble beneath his long, dark fingers.
"This is enough," thought Pacen, "first the air in my cave becomes unbreathable now it's crumbling away!? I don't know what's going on, but it would be unwise to stay there much longer."
He gathered his few minute belongings, stuffed them into his cloak, and began walking through the forest. "ARGH!", he heard faintly, as though someone had been shot. Pacen froze and looked astonished at the green beam of light leading up to the sky.
"No way, something weird's happening here."
Pacen continued making his way through the forest, a little unsettled, towards the direction in which he had seen the beam.
He stopped near a small clearing, seeing the lifeless mudokon in a heap on the dry ground. He noticed a slig walking away from the farm.
"A slig out here?" thought Pacen. He knew the slig must have something to do with all this and decided to follow him...
