I couldn't care less about "most" mainstream music ... I don't even know why I looked at this topic, bored I guess. Although I aren't quite in the dark on such music, I have heard of Nickelback, I just have no idea of any of their songs. But it's just lame as to use the same music and put different lyrics to it. Especially as a single [read: cashing in]. There would be exceptions if it were like a unreleased track, alternate version, different language, etc. But that speaker thing is amusing.
But you know, it isn't anything new. Bands done that back in the 50s and 60s according to my parents. My mum always listens to the oldies station. And there's this one song about school that sounds like this other song about riding in a car. So I questioned my mum on this years ago, and said ... that song sounds like that other one. And she said, yeah, it's the same tune, they just put different lyrics to it and re-released it.
