David Bowie believed that his on-stage characters (Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Aladdin Sane etc) represented facets of himself, and he encouraged other people to find other characters within themselves.

I haven't really thought of my characters that way (I don't even have that many), but maybe I've matched them to parts of me subconsciously.

I did an interesting psychology test once. There were pictures of lots of animals, and the test told me to pick three and rank them in the order I liked them (with 1 being my favourite). I picked the lion first, the wolf second, and the horse third. The test then told me to write down four things that I asscoiated with each animal (and I had to choose the words from a list). For the lion, I wrote 'predatory, ferocity, strength, pride.' The wolf; 'courage, endurance, patience, intelligence' and the horse; 'swiftness, playfulness, agility, intelligence'.
The results were quite startling. Apparently your first choice is your ideal image; how you would like to be seen. Your second choice is the image you project; how you think you appear to others. And your third choice is how you think you really are. I read all that and I was gobsmacked. It was so true! I do want to be seen as ferocious and dangerous, but I think I come across as more of an industrious and intelligent type. But I really think of myself as quite gentle and playful (I don't associate myself with swiftness or agility, though; I'm broad-shouldered, wide-hipped, tall, and heavy).

The point of that little anecdote was whether that could also be applied to our characters. Maybe your favourite of your characters is how you want to be; your second is most like how you present yourself to others and your third is most like you in RL. Just a theory.

Twisted Firestarter is my main character. I think she is a vague representation of how I would like to be. I certainly wouldn't want to be the strange human/hyaena/Glukkon hybrid that she is, but I would like some of the qualities I associate with the last two of those creatures.
Twisted can be a fierce fighting machine who can kill ruthlessly without letting her emotions interfere, but when she is doing things for herself rather than for duty, she is a very sensitive person (thing... whatever) who can empathise with others. She is also highly intelligent and resourceful. That's the kind of person I want to be. I want to be loved by my friends and notoriously feared and hated by my enemies. I want to strike terror into those I hate... I want to be dangerous!... and to be someone associated with kindness and nicety by those I love.
So Twisted is definitely my ideal image.

I'm really not sure what other facets of me my other characters represent.
