Chapter 4
They laid there awhile, Spider comforting her. Finally Spider stood back up.
"Come on...stand up. Lets make sure yer ok." He said gently.
She complied and stood still as Spider looked her over.
"Yer can relax Shriek...yer know I won't hurt yer." Spider said.
It took her a moment to noticed what he called her.
"What did you call me?" she asked as she turned to look at him.
"Shriek...I called yer Shriek." he replied.
"Why Shriek?"
"Well...yer needed a name and yer partically blew my ears out with that shriek of yers a while ago, so it suits yer."
"But then...why are you called Spider? You don't look, act or sound like one..."
Spider suddenly looked sad. "That..." he said, "is from a story I am not ready ter tell..."
"Your past life is that bad?"
"Some parts more then others...I'd rather not talk 'bout it."
"I...I'm sorry...at least you have a past..."
"That is true...sometimes I wish I could forget it, but I know I can never forget it...or I'm doomed ter repeat it...Lets go, it's time ter hurt fer dinner."
They walked quite a ways before Spider scented something. He lowered his head to the ground, determining the age and which direction the owner went.
"What is it?" Shriek asked.
"Elum...a whole herd from the looks of it." Spider replied, "This way and keep yer voice down."
Shriek nodded and followed. Soon they came across the elum herd, which was peacefully grazing.
"What now?" Shriek whispered.
"Yer stay here and out of sight. I'll handle this." Spider then suddenly moved away and Shriek watched in interest as he stalked the herd. He moved quickly and quietly from hiding place to hiding place, watching the herd the whole time, getting closer and closer to them. Shriek purred slightly as she continued to watch him; she found him quite handsome.
He's strong and smart... she thought, nice too. I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life with him...why am I thinking like this? she thought.
Her brief inattention made her lose sight of Spider. She looked but couldn't spot him. Suddenly something spooked the herd and it started stampeding; right toward her....
