a thought
i have been playing ninja gaiden, and that game (though needlessly hard to just pick up and go) a has fantastic controll system. so i was thinking for oddworld we should learn from this system. most specifically i speak of the wall run feature. wall to character interaction depends on which buttons you use and how fast you are moving in what direction. these controlls (I also like shinobi for ps2) are incredible. it opens a complete freedom to the level, that you would miss if you were just going through to beat it. im not saying we should rip off all the ninja games that are out (though i will say i love them). but there is something really badass about a character that can go anywhere, flip and dodge, wallrun and instantly kill with a rapid sucession of slient blows from his sword, then stealthily sneak away. (*do note the straight sword in shinobi looks better than the ninja gaiden, also the costume does)
i say oddworld should nurture this idea, and take it to a whole new level. supppose oddworld had some amphbian (or reptile, or whatever) who could stick to walls. now we have a whole new arena for secret places, vents and, stealth. imgaine stiking to the underside or side of a platform. (gravity of course has an effect on sideways and upside down jumps) the camera should stay oreinted as normal, but the character would be changing planes.
too much effort you say? ok then make it a hidden character of little importance other than i can unlock him somehow, and replay the game with his different set of skills. unlocking hidden extras is GREAT for replay value, which is a big criticism of OWI games.
the reason ninjas are so cool in this sense is that they are assasins. what if the character we got to play with was working against the games central character (like Munch or Abe) . so all of a sudden we are the bad guys. just foor good writings sake there have to be sad moments in oddworld, how muhc sadder would they be if we HAD to be the one that did it.
ok that is my thouhgt. we need a stealth wallwalking (and ceilingwalking) character who is badass (possibly bad-guy or gal) who is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
