It looks more to me as if it's the Iraqis who are risking their lives to protect their country. We are the invaders! For christs sake.

Esus I'd love to agree with you, because on many points you are very correct, but Iraq was never at risk as a country. The only risk was American heavy handed tactics in removing Saddam (which is all that they needed to do).
The large amount of tanks, bombers, and attack helicopters were unnessacery, since the US army train commandos that could take or capture out the majority of Saddam and his forces with relative ease.
