Like most others are claiming now, I think User Promotions is a pointless waste of time. We already have post-counts and ranking (both of which I ignore), and members still have their reputations. I'm sure those people who behave sensibly, and who are constructive and contribute what they can, are held in a higher regard than people who frequently spam and mess around.

When I started promoting myself in the last set of mod elections, my motivations were to help the community, not to up my own status. Contrary to that, though, custom titles for the veteran and well-respected members is a brilliant idea. Forum-wide voting sounds like a lot of effort, not to mention an over-the-top action. I can't claim to have an instant solution to suggest, but this whole thread sticks of pointlessness. Majic is predominantly right - things are dandy as they are.
