Only in America will the whole "Oh, it was the music/game/film that made me do it!!" be used in Court. Sure, we have a few people over here or do it, but as my Media Studies teacher once said "The Americans are gullible beyond comprehension.".
I don't think you can blame the parents until you know what they're like. Chances are they're going to be Religious...they always are.
