When I first got here, I spent about a 100 times as much time in General Oddworld than in Off-topic but Off-Topic really got me hooked on these forums.
I lurked a lot before I joined and I can still recall a ton of people who left before I joined or left now like Sistah Souljah, Surfacing, Pinky, Rettik, Jacob's other 38 flavors...
Man, that stuff was harsh sometimes! And it was almost always politically orientated. It seemed like the UnHoly Trinity of flame starters was present every night(that would be homosexuality, abortion, and creation/evolution). I seemed to be fighting a losing battle, though. I also hold these forums directly responsible for the changing of my political views(used to be a drug warrior Republican!)
I really got into it sometimes and the forums, especially my posts, seemed to be a lot more vulgar. I even remember being told to cut down my cursing and I was in like 6th, 7th grade!
There was also some sort of civil war because I came back from a pretty brief hiatis and the whole place went to hell!
Other things that stand out in my mind
The banning of the word "fag" as an insult
The nigh-endless topics(Seriously, that was like the golden age of the threadjack)
