Well, I guess PA and I are more into movies than you kids. Maquettes are usually used in the design process of a film. Let's say the design of a creature isn't final.....you make a bunch a mini sculptures(maquettes) and the Director would choose the one he likes. Sometimes the Director would like part of a design from one, and an attribute of another, so you take what Mr. Director guy says and make more maquettes until he picks a final design.
