I don't think anyone should defend any one party, the Democratic Liberals; the Conservative Conservatives. What this thread is about, and what people should be aware of, is exactly what PA said. BECOME AWARE of who is running for office; BECOME AWARE of who is already IN office. A lot of people have heard bad things from both sides. well, here are unbiased, albeit said in a favourable way, claims about President Bush. He has created a separate branch of the US government, which must have cost a lot of money.
He is not the first to do so. In 1980, when Ronald Reagan took office, he created the Department of Domestic Diplomacy, yet another beaucratic "quagmire". The task of this agency was to "control US public opinion." They would call up news broadcasting station and tell them what news stories to air, and in what way to air them. If you ran a story otherwise, to favour say the Sandanistas in Nicaragua back during the Contra conflict......if you were a supporter of the Sandanistas, or you went down to Central America to check out what was going on, you were followed by agents from the CIA. These were citizens who were seen as a "threat to US foreign policy." Nixon had a similar method of keeping an eye on threats to his administration right here at home......his own secret police. As for as I know, the Department of Domestic Diplomacy has never been disbanded. This is the ultimate is secret propoganda.......and it's been mocked through such means as what SeaRex and hobo have posted, in those mock propoganda posters.
So what do you really know about your president.....about your governor, and so forth? It's tough to actually utilize your RIGHT TO VOTE, especially in a generation bred on apathy. The ramification of this growing apathy are not good at all. Never stop caring; always have some interest in what your government is doing.
