I can't really say if being friends with family is good, cos i don't really get along with mine. But i'd say the whole Grig having no friends is bad. He won't learn to socialise properly. Sure, he'll socialise with his family but they'll put up with his socially inept flaws - whereas actual people won't. You really assume far too much. Grig might be an excellent socialiser. I certainly enjoy his conversations on MSN. Hell I bet if Grig put his mind to it he could make a fine circle of friends.
Even if I never meet Grig, I certainly consider him a friend, mainly because he has such a nice attitude and personality.
