Most of the paintings you see in the Spectrum book are free handed paintings but were modefied digitally to go in the book. The ones for Oddworld are digital. There is a little caption underneath each picture that gives the title plus the size and what medium it was done in.
Its amazeing the painting that was on the page next to Oddworld was a painting done in I believe Acrylic and oil. Which in the fundementals of art you can't mix the two but as wild as the artist was in that painting he did. Which inspires me. Which is a prime example of an artistic Lisence.
So pretty much the book is an example of all different paint mediums from water color to oil to acrylic and then digital. The card looks to me that originally the design was probabally done in oils or Acrylics or heck Prisma Color pencels but then taken and modified digitally to be printed on cards. But usually the process starts in the free hand conceptual stage useing the old fashioned method. An artist has to come up with the single design to be printed on thousands of cards.
