As Ronan fell, a pillar of fire raised out from the lava benath him. It quickly cooled and became solid rock.
Ronan landed squarely on it, and was safe long enough for Saros to come down and pick him back up.
Saros: Jeez, Ronan! That was way too close!
Lammy: Yeah, dude. That was seriously uncool.
Blarg: Uhh, I think you can explain later. We have another issue!
They looked up and saw the beast overhead!
