the black out only hit parts of New England. It did hit ALL of New York start, parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and a good portion of Ontario. NEw York city was calm. Any foreign reports of things going totally nuts here are completely false. I cannot say the same for other areas, but New York was cool.

The cause is still not totally known, but the power grid is weak. It was suppoed to be updated, but what I think is that is isn't being updated with techology. Everyone has a DVD player, a personal entertainment system, 4 TVs, PS2s, Xboxs, computers, etc. All these things drain enormous amounts of electricity, and the power grid was not updated to cope with this. So if there is a lightning storm or something, major heat, air conditioners going all night long, you will ahve a black out. THings drain electricity even when they are turned off. The standby light on your DVD player, stereo, computer...etc. YOU actually have to unplug a lot of appliances to have them TOTALLY off.

Bush said the situation needed to be investigated.....a big understatement. IT's not jsut the power grid. We need to take a step back and see how much we actually consume, especially with technology ever increasing.
