That's because for the most part they're shooting you not with actual bullets but with cans of brew and syringes. They would have been fine if they'd have got you addicted as the previews drooled over, but instead they completely replaced proper weapons, leaving us with some awful compromise between the two - weapons designed to attract customers which in fact kill you, and the ability just to jump around a lot in order not to get shot too much. You can easily play through the entire of MO without ever dying, yet part of AO's charm was its frustration factor, not because of twisted cameras or bizarre AI, but because the gameplay was hard.
