I don't think it's meiosis. Meiosis doesn't give extra chromosomes... it takes them away doesn't it? Meiosis is nuclear division of the cell where the daughter cells (or new ones) have (i think it was) one half of the chromosomes of the original cell. So I think if there was something wrong with that, the person would be missing a few chromosomes. Mitosis is where the cell divides evenly and the new cell is an exact duplicate of the original (same number of chromosomes). I think it's something wrong with that that causes the syndrome thing you're talking about.

A single cells has 46 chromes. When it splits, you have a chrome of 23 and another of 23. each sperm has 23 sometimes the division process can have a stress in it to make it have 24 or 22. Women have 23 chromes in their egg.That's why you have 23 from mom, and 23 from dad.

Your constantly doing it. Your skin is doing it right now! Mitosis out of control causes cancer. Meiosis out of control can cause a genetic disorder in the child or it can maybe die.
