I didn't say nothing could travel faster that the speed of light, I just said that nothing could accelerate to the speed of light - It would have to become light first, either that, or it would have to pass between particles and molecules, changing polarities of electrons (electricity BTW). Now if your talking on a partical level here, then yes, this is easily possible. Particles being turned in to light (being made to travel at light speed by the black hole) would easily make the black hole visable, and afterwards, after the particles have started moving FASTER than light, they would no longer be visable. Unfortunately, this is the only way to see a black hole - Either when light gets sucked in and your left with a carona around a ball of black, or when something sun oriented (IE ultraviolet, gasses etc.) get sucked in and they show up in ultraviolate telescopes etc.

The problem with black holes, is that their gravity is so great, that they suck in everything until they get too large for the gravity to be distributed evenly across the surface of the defunct star to make it powerful enough to suck stuff in. Once the black hole has sucked in so much that its got so large that its own gravity has become weak, it collapses in on itself, leaving a field of strange gasses and asteroids. - When you think about it, its a wonder that whole planets don't get sucked in to these things - I mean, according to certain scientists these things are "holes in the universe". But to be honest, I think that's a bit of a dream. That theory is not consistant with the way the rest of the universe works, and sounds more impressive than feasable.

Imagine how INTENSE the surface of a black hole star must be; It's gravity is so powerful that even light reflecting off its surface gets pulled back in again!

BUT, this thread is about UFOs, not solar physics (good DJ name!).

Personally, I think Stephen Hawking is the worlds most wasted mind - HE could be working in biology looking for cures, or in plasma physics working on the fusion generator. But instead he is teaching us thing we will never use.

Such is the result of mankinds pathetic questions.
