Chapter6: Welcome to the puppy mill California

Karma was tossed out pf her cage onto a cold hard floor. A man in a big fancy swivel chair smoking a cigar faced the other way from her. The man who brought them into the room looked nervous and shivered at the sight of the big fat guy in the chair. "I got those three arctic wolf pups you wanted sir." He wrung his hat nervously in his hands and stepped back as the guy in the chair turned around. He had a look of evil on his face, the look of greed resonated in his cold brown eyes. Karma could almost see dollar signs flash on his face as he glared at her. "Good work McHenry, you'll get paid double today...." The greedy looking man got out of his chair and inspected Karma Deputy and Blitz. Blitz growled deeply and snapped at his fingers. "Oooh, a vicious one, perfect. We can sell his pups to the police force, or dog fighting rings." He then looked at Deputy and picked him up. Deputy was the opposite of Blitz, and cowered terrified in the man's palms. "Hmm, this one is good tempered. A family animal. We can sell his pups to pet stores and make tons of money. Then he looked at Karma. Karma was neither frightened, nor vicious. She simply held her ground and let him now he didn't scare her. Well, actually he did. Very much. She just didn't let it show. He picked he rup and turned her on her stomach. "Ah, a female. Not cowerdly, yet not agressive...... what a horrible mixture. It disgusts me. It's not good for anything!" He threw Karma on the ground, cracking her shoulder painfully and causing a loud yelp to escape from her mouth. Karma put her tail between her legs and hid behind Blitz. The man glared evily at Karma. Then his glare seemed to soften more into a scanning stare, then into a smile. He laughed and picked her back up. "Who gives a rats ass about temperment when you have a coat like that! Look at the marking on this one! Beautiful!" He kissed Karma and lifted her in the air. "With fur like that, you're perfect for show breeding! Sweety, you're gonna make me millions!" He hugged Karma tightly, the stench of cigar smoke clinging onto his pinstripe tuxedo like a magnet. "McHenry, show our new residents to their new rooms...." The man put them back in their cages, and brought each of them to seperate cages, Blitz and Deputy on one half of the building, Karma on the other, with the rest of the females. It was fairly large, with a little doggie house with a blanket for cold nights, and two bowls filled wth the same brown crunchy stuff on the plain and some water. Karma gorged herself, then went to explore the rest of her new territory. She noticed other animals around her, all girls, some wolves, some dogs. All in the same enclosures as her. Karma figured she had a pretty good life going. Then she heard a voice from behind. "Psst, hey, kid, ovah here." Karma whirled around. "What? Who said that?" "Me kid! Ovah here!" A scragely looking wolf with mangey, yet beautiful white fur called her. "So, yo the newbie 'round here I'm guessin'." "Yeah, I just got here." "Well guess what kid, you got a long life here ahead of yeh. It ain't all that bad, once you gets used to Margaret." She pointed to a twitching Heina with flies buzzing around, cackling like it just saw Martha Steward get kicked off the show. "The name's Sasha kid, and lemme just tell yeh that yous got a great future comin' for yah." "Hi Sasha, my name's Karma. Um, does anyone know exactly whats wrong with Margaret?" "Nice ta meet ya Karma, we're not entirely sure whats wrong wit Margey, just that she's ran inta the electric fence one too many times." "Haha, you don't need a rocket scientist to tell you that!" "Hahahah! I like yous kid, you ain't half bad. You and me are gonna be good friends." A few months passed. Then about a year did. Karma was now a year and a half old, and was pretty happy. She saw Blitz and Deputy now and then at feeding time, but not much. Then that little bit turned into less, then that into nothing. But who cared, she had Sasha. She was always by her side except for every day at 12 to 1 where she went into the building for something. Karma never found out what she did in there, whenever she asked her she would change the subject. Until one day, she found out.....
