I have a theory. The Glukkons in the final screen of the game are actually bombs. OWI didn't really want to program in an entire new creature for the ALIVE engine, so they just used normal bombs and 'disguised' them as Glukkons.
Like I say, it's just a theory. Alternatively, the synthetic materials in their suits contain nitroglycerine.
