Chapter3:The loyalty of jackals or dogs?

Karma trudged back to the den. Those strange sounding wolves called to her, yearned to play with her. They were probably so bored out of their minds that their eyes were about to pop out, and needed soemone to play with, regardless of species. Maybe they wanted to get in touch with their kind? Afterall, the humans probably had them copped up all day with nothing to do. Karma looked back at the human development below the cliff, then back at the pack. "Maybe I could sneek out or something, they'd never know!" Karma followed her mother back to the den. She waited until nightfall when the pups were supposed to be asleep, and the adults out hunting. Karma pretended to sleep and waited till she heard her parents paw steps fade away into the night. She peeked out of the den, her green eyes glowing yellow in the moonlight. When she was sure they were gone, she dashed out of her den to Deputy's. "Psst, yo, Dep, Deputy! Get up you dork!" Karma shook Deputy until he woke up. "You know Karma, normal kids are sleeping at this time!" Deputy growled and rolled over. "Come on Deputy! I'm sneekin' out and going over to the humans to play with those pups they have there, you wanna come?" "Are you crazy?! You heard my dad! We're not allowed to go down there no matter what! Who knows what those things could do!" "Well fine be a scaredy cat! Don't go! But....I'm warning you, if by some chance you don't go and I somehow accidently tell your dad about that skunk you're keeping in the old abandoned den......" All right, all right allready! I'll go with you!" Deputy slowly got to his feet and shook off. The two drowzy pups then made their way to Blitz's den. "Yo, Blitz, wanna go to the human's place?" Blitz shot up in the blink of an eye. "Are you kidding?! Of course I will! I'm not some sort of baby!" Blitz wagged his tail and pounced out of the den, bolting across the field to the cliffs. Karma melted right into the shadowy night with her pitch black fur, save the two zig zag striped of white down her cheeks and snout. Blitz didn't blend in too well with his muddy brown fur, but was way better off than Deputy, who's snow white fur showed like a beacon in the twilight. "Damn your fur Deputy! you're gonna get us all caught!" Blitz growled. "Hey! Don't blame me for my own genetics! It's my dad's stupid white genes! Not mine!" They ran until they got to the sandy desert-like cliffs of the prairie. They stared down off the cliffs, trying to spot out their canine companions. Suddenly they heard a howl and a bark. "Thats them!" Karma shouted, and bolted down the gravely, less steeper side of the cliff. They stopped at the bottom with a grinding sound, and followed the sent of the nw pups. It was strange though, they smelled like wolves, but a bit different. Maybe spending too much time with humans made them smell like them. The three pups found their new friends tied up to trees with what smelled like peices of cow skin. They wagged their tails and greeted eachother happily. They were two pups, about a year old each. Both midnight black, and looked and smelled almost identical. "Hi! I'm Raven!" "And I'm Shadow!" "And we're twins!" The two brothers said in unison. "Hi! I'm Karma, this is Deputy, and this is Blitz!" "Nice to meet you!" They both chimed in together. The five pups played and chased eachother as far as Raven and Shadow could go on their leather leashes, until Blitz, with his big mouth, popped the question. "Why do you guys smell funky?" The twins looked at eachother and laughed. "Because we're not wolves, we're Labs!" Shadow said. "You're what?" Deputy questioned. "Labradors! Thats a type of dog! We're like wolves, except tamer, friendlier, less aggressive, and not to mention cleaner." Raven said with his snout in the air. "Hey, are you calling us dirty?!" Blitz growled and bared his tiny fangs. "Of course not! It's just that we don;t take baths by rolling in the dirt!" Shadow snickered and they both rolled on the ground laughing. "Well if you're going to make fun of us then we won't play with you!" Karma yelled and walked off with her nose in the air. Blitz and Deputy followed her lead. "Well they just made a BIG mistake!" Raven growled. "Oh yes, a big mistake indeed. No one insults the Twilight brothers and gets away with it!" Shadow howled in pain as his knees buckled in false agony. He rolled on the ground yelping as if something had attacked him badly. Karma and the pups ran back to see if he was allright. Just as they did, the whole village woke up, got out of their tents, and saw two things. 1, a dog rolling on the ground, howling and yelping like it just got hit by a car, 2 three wolf pups surrounding it, sniffing it and pawing at it. If you saw this, I think you'd think the same thing happened that the villagers did. "You stupid animals! Get away from my dog!" The man took out a rifel and started shooting at the pups. "Randy stop it! Animals or not they're puppies! Besides, if we can declare them dangerous and catch 'em, then we can sell them to the zoo or something for money!" Shouted a short, elderly woman. "Hmm, you're right Maud, next time I see those varments I'm acatchin' 'em! Maud dearest, I think we just made ourselves rich!"
