Part 9

*Setting: Packing his Elum hide suitcase, Mr Eal never said a word. He had told his wife about what the Shaman had said and both of them had discussed it for over two days, after which they decided to go ahead and go to one of the cities. Mrs Eal had already packed her belongings and was now saying her goodbyes to close-ones. Calen was doing the same. They hadn't decided which city they were going to go to, but they knew some people in Caló. The city they had tried to desperatly to escape from. Closing and locking his suitcase Mr Eal stepped out of his house and sighed. The entire village had swarmed around the family abode to wish them well. One of the villagers, Chall, was even going to take them to the boundaries of the chosen city on his Horse and cart. Chall pushed through the crowd and smiled, the Horse and cart was ready to go with a stack of straw in the back so that the family could hide away from any Industrialists or patrols. Mr Eal shook hands with the males and hugged and kissed the females goodbye. He then stepped towards the cart and climbed up, helping his wife and daughter up afterwards. Chall then got onto the seat and cracked the whip, the Horse whinnied and then started to trot forwards. There was tears of worry and sadness from the village as they waved goodbye to the Eals, hoping that everything would be sorted out when they returned...*

Chall: "Ta tha boundaries, right? But ta which city?"

The Mudokon turned his head to the side to speak to them, his skin was green and his feathers purple.

Mr Eal: "The boundaries...thats right. And to the city of Caló..."

He sighed and glanced a worried look at his wife, resting his back against the straw. He wished there was another way but he knew that no magick could help his daughter now and he loved her too much to just let her die. He had to do something.

Mrs Eal: "How are we going to get in? You know what the security was like when we tried to get out...it was awful. What if its like that now..."

Mr Eal shook his head and sat up, stroking his wifes cheek with the back of his index finger.

Mr Eal: "We'll get through, dont worry. I'm not gonna let them stop me from helping Calen."

He looked at her and stroked her plume. She sighed, resting her head upon his chest.

Calen: "Daddy...whats the city like?"

He laid back down upon the straw and caressed his daughters head.

Mr Eal: "Its...Its a very different place. You must hold either mine or mummys hand when we're there, ok? You cant go wandering off on your own."

Calen nodded wearily. Wondering why her father was so overprotective and what kind of creatures she would see and meet.

Voice: "Dont worry, child. Nothing will harm you...i'll protect you."

Turning her head towards the bottom of the cart, Calen looked to were she heard the voice come from. She then looked at her mother and father, both were resting their eyes.

Calen: "Will you pwotect mummy and daddy 'swell?"

She asked this in a hushed whisper, silently pleading the answer would be 'yes'. But all she got was silence. Sitting up she asked again, and awaited patiently.

Mrs Eal: "Calen, try and get some rest. Ok? Your going to need to be alert when in the city..."

The little child turned and nodded, lying back upon her fathers stomach...with a worry ridden mind.
