Well I know that the native Mudokons would use those vertical platforms, and they probably had their own Elum stashed away somewhere. Transportation portals could be used for long distances as well, but they would need the ability to chant.
I still reckon nothing beats those air tunnels/shafts/wells! Imagine using one of those inside your house (especially the ones that shoot you four screens upward)!?!
