My character's goal is to kill another character. He is a pretty bad guy, so I will be able to hurt, yet not kill, a lot of characters, and then the monsters will finish them off.
Ok, then, how about this.
You can only kill another guy when the two players, one of the killer and one of the killed, agrees on killing eachother.
So killing is possible, but both players have to agree about it.

After reading Shade's post, that may be the best way. I'm glad we have a guy like Shadestorm who can be such a good diplomat.
