Perhaps at one time the Vykkers were being harmed do to the Intern's whistleing noise and they had to take drastic measures to fix the problem. So they invented to Stitch 2000.

It's been supposebly found that a lions roar has a very deadly meaning and purpose. Apparently it emitts a very high pitched sound that can stun animals (i don't know about humana, maybe) for a second or so. Which gives lions the second or so that it needs to pounce on a victim. Interns might have something like that, which would back up your story
