And it seems that Vykkers have these harnesses that help them grasp things. I doubt that Vykkers lived in trees... look at those hands. Completely unsuitable. The Interns may have lived in trees though that means they probably didn't live with the Vykkers.

Spindly little arms would slow a lesser species down, but the Vykkers have weird science to give them a hand. Their special manipulator harnesses let them wield a wicked assortment of delightful surgical tools.
