Well, I can't imagine why the new generation wouldn't appreciate all that OI has done for the industry. They tried to breathe originality into the otherwise lifeless world of spinoffs and ripoffs.

Well, it would have gotten more recognition (obviously) if it were on more platforms. But two things make me not think that it would be the only reason:
1) The Xbox is nearly as popular as the PS2...

It's sad, really.
That Stranger didn't get the respect from the overall gaming populace that it deserved. I guess in a world of Halo 2's and GTA's, there's no reoom for innovation and originality in storytelling...
