Banners:the box with the red X

I put my banner up, but theres a red x instead. Can anyone help me on how to view my banner plz.

Thank you.

Esus 04-26-2004 12:24 PM

Edit: I think it just doesn't exist. ignore my previous thingy.

Joshy 04-26-2004 09:38 PM

Where did you link your banner to?

Alcar 04-26-2004 10:10 PM

The image's URL is pointing to an invalid script on our server. Why on Earth is it pointing to our server?

Alcar...

Oddish 04-27-2004 11:44 AM

Well i used the address from the tool bar, and i put my banners name in when i write the thing.

I hope that made sense.

Esus 04-27-2004 11:52 AM

no, that didn't make sense.
You have to host your image on a image server. These forums don't allow you to do this, so you have to either buy a server, or use a free server just as photobucket.

Oddish 05-09-2004 06:04 AM

Yay! promblem solved!

I hooked my image on my server, Wanadoo.com. Then I put my image address in my siginaitor, but the same thing happend. I just can't see what i'm doing wrong.

Hhhhmm... *thinks*

EDIT: Ahhh.. forget the whole thing! I tooken care of it now.

Havoc 05-09-2004 03:54 PM

Well what was wrong then?

Teal 05-13-2004 02:53 AM

As a sidenote, most free hosts don't give you the bandwidth to post images externally. I see Havoc's all right, but both Esus' and Oddish's banners don't show up - I know for one that Angelfire doesn't allow remote hosting of images (Esus, you might be able to see your banner, as it's in your cache, but I just see that ugly "Image hosted by Angelfire" image right now). Photobucket is one that does (at the moment) and so does M$ Communities (although you have to tackle the huge URLs) so they might be ones to try.

Edit: Oddish, I don't think Freewebs allows remote posting of images either, since I still see the red x. I know your image exists as I looked at the properties, but you need to find a host that allows you some free bandwidth - Photobucket is a reasonable one, and they're free at the moment.

Oddish 05-13-2004 08:08 AM

I can see mine.I can also see Esus one. But i 'll try do something.

Esus 05-13-2004 08:17 AM

I dont see my banner, Teal, I just havn't got round to re-hosting it yet.

DeBulletDodger 05-13-2004 09:00 AM

I see all of your banners. I thought your banner was fixed oddish

Oddish 05-13-2004 09:16 AM

I also see all banners too , and mine banner is fine. For some reason Teal can't see some banners.

Havoc 05-13-2004 11:04 AM

I host picture's for both my signature's, my avaters and my forum instalments over at www.imageshack.us.
Its a great service, but you have to make sure you write te URL of the pic down :). Works like a charm :).

DeBulletDodger 05-13-2004 11:06 AM

I just upload mine into my freewebs account its easy and less hasle.

Hey, Mac. You convinced me :) I already like photobucket better than imageshack :). Thanks for pointing it out!

Teal 05-14-2004 12:36 AM

So far as I can tell, Freewebs don't allow you to remotely post pictures you have hosted on their servers. From their FAQ:

:

Hotlinking means storing an image on one web account and linking directly to it from another website. This is also referred to as Image hosting ... FreeWebs prevents this type of use as our primary purpose is to provide web hosting. However, for those users who do wish to use FreeWebs as an image host as well, we have made available Webzoom which will permit your files to be hotlinked
I believe this is only available to Premium service users, but since I'm with EasySpace I'm not entirely sure how Freewebs works. Those people that CAN see the image may well have it stored in their caches - for instance, if I view the image properties and open the image, then flick back to the forums, I can see it too, because it's in my cache. When I log off the Uni network, then log back in, the cache is automatically cleared by the system, so when I come back half the banners are gone again.

And yes, Photobucket is wonderful. :)

DeBulletDodger 05-14-2004 06:16 AM

But people that havnt directly viewed the image can still see it i know this because i read that somewhere so i tested it.

Oddish 05-14-2004 08:06 AM

How is my banner now?

Havoc 05-14-2004 10:01 AM

Much better, I actualy see it now :).

Oddish 05-14-2004 10:13 AM

I also made my banner just a little less blurry ;) i like your banner Havoc, nice layout.

Havoc 05-14-2004 01:45 PM

Well thank you, I like the usage of the colors in it :).
