Oddworld goes Atari!
Now I dunno if this is already known but I think that since OWI is no longer working with Microsoft they decided to partner up with Atari.
Atari INC works with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, PC, and Mac Hardware. Here is a list of franchises who are with Atari. Now I think that OWI is now going to be makeing their games under the Atari name instead of Microsoft but still use Microsoft X-Box. Here is the info: The Atari Product Library With more than 1,000 titles in its global catalog, Infogrames Entertainment SA is one of the world's largest publishers of interactive games. The Company's products span all genres of entertainment and include some of the industry's leading franchises and some of the world's most recognizable licenses. Key Franchises Alone in the Dark Backyard Sports Big Price Civilization Deer Hunter Driver Freddi Fish Independence War Oddworld Pajama Sam Putt Putt RollerCoaster Tycoon Test Drive Unreal Tournament V-Rally Key Licenses Asterix Digimon Dragon Ball Z Le Mans 24 Hours Looney Tunes Lucky Luke Men In Black Mission: Impossible The Matrix NASCAR Smurfs Superman Survivor Terminator Tintin Publishing Atari's products are developed internally at development studios owned and/or managed by the Company around the world, as well as as with external development studios whom the Company contracts to develop specific properties. Over the years, Atari has cultivated relationships with many of the industry's most widely regarded development studios: Angel Studios (Transworld Surf) Appeal (Outcast) DarkWorks (Alone in the Dark) Deep Red (Monopoly Tycoon) Digital Extremes (Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Championship) Eden Studios (V-Rally) Epic Games (Unreal, Unreal Tournament) Firaxis (Civilization I, II, III) Humongous Entertainment (Backyard Sports, Freddi Fish, Putt Putt, Pajama Sam, Spy Fox) Oddworld Inhabitants (Munch's Oddysee) Paradigm Entertainment (Looney Tunes' Duck Dodgers) Particle Systems (Independence War) Pitbull Syndicate (Test Drive, Demolition Racer) Reflections (Driver) Rainbow Studios (Splashdown) My guess is that since Microsoft did not want to publish with OWI anymore OWI turned to Atari as their main publisher to release on the Microsoft product X-Box. Atari publishes with Microsoft, Sony and all the main video game publishers. Tell you the truth I like that. Id rather have Atari be their publisher than Microsoft because Atari is one of those ground breaking companies that started the whole idea of video game consols way back in the late 70's. Atari was the first consol and will remain the founder of the video game consol. Before Atari it was the Arcade. So I believe we are going to be seeing the Atari logo on Oddworld games now even though they are for X-Box. Now why is Oddworld Munch's Oddysee under the Atari name. Well simply because Atari is now the Licenses publisher of OWI stock. So in finnish I think the mystery new publisher of OWI is Atari. But I dunno if anybody on here knew that or not. What I am saying is Atari yes had ties with OWI in the past when they were under Sony's agreement and I think what happened is that after the Microsoft OWI agreement went down the tubes, I beleave OWI turned to just Atari a trusted company to be their main publisher as oppose to just Microsoft or just sony etc etc. But like I said I dunno if everybody on here knew that or not. Correct me if I am wrong. |
Hmmm, sounds a bit iffy to me. Where did you say you found this info again? I'm surprosed they got a new publisher so hastily.
|
Ouch, Atari hasn't been making that great of games lately...oh well. Hopefully they won't put a damper on Stranger.

:
well, ok sonic is nothing for everyone. ok. back to topic: oddworld goes atari? yeah i think that would be cool. oddworld series would be available for ps2, gc, etc too. i don't need to buy a xbox then. :fuzblink: .:VaniLLaKiLLah:. |
Oddworld Inhabitants have always been with Atari. It's simply been under a number of company merges and name changes:
GT Interactive > Infogrames > Atari All the same company. Alcar... |
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. OWI actually said they won't be with either Microsoft or Atari.
|
Hmm well I was just confirming that.
|
:
|
Not all of them are going to be made on the Xbox. They only have a contract for the Xbox, for the next four games. If they wanted to, they could change consoles.
Alcar... |
Maybe so, but why would they? Unless there was a big problem with Xbox, I doubt they would spend more time/money finding another system.
|
Oh, yes, of course. But the option is always there, after the four games are produced.
Alcar... |
Next three games, Alcar, Munch's Oddysee was the first of the four Xbox exclusives.
|
But will they still be Xbox exclusives. We don't know the full details of the contract, but the contract might have been "Xbox exclusives when they were being published by Microsoft". With Microsoft dropping out as Oddworld's publisher, then maybe it also nulls the contractual agreement about the Xbox exculsive titles.
It all depends on whether that was part of their publisher agreement or whether it was a different agreement all together. As far as we know, Oddworld might be free to be on any console they like now, but my guess is that they'll stay with Xbox, as they like the hardware and also it is more work to develop for more than one console. Abe Babe... |
Plus, Xbox is the only console powerful enough to support all of data and stuff that they put on the disc.
|
And even if the PS3 is powerful enough, OWI still probably won't use it unless it's programming has been heavily simplified (which, rumour has it, it wont be) as OWI hated programming for the PS2
|

|
Well, Oddworld could stick to the Xbox 'till the end of the quintology, but what about the games after that? They may want something more powerful for games such as the Habitales and Fearitales which will probly need alot of complicated programming, aswell as Hand Of Odd (though I think that's an online game so it may be on PC aswell as Xbox).
|
they'll probably then only program for the Xbox2 (unless the PS3 is better as I have said above)
