Abe's exoddus on XP

Does AE have any problems with XP? As I've just found this wonderful game again but it won't even start!

Here's my problem: Start it normaly and it says it's not NT compatible.
Make the compatability win 95 and it comes up with an error screen saying the game has been terminated.

any help?

ParamiteRich 04-03-2004 11:38 AM

This might work:
Right click on the game and select properties.
A the top click on compatability.
Then look for a sub title called run in compatability mode for:
below this theres a dropdown box, click on the down arrow and select windows 95.
Click on apply then click on ok.
Run the game.

I believe he just said that did'nt work...
As far as I know AE does not work on XP... sadly enough :(

ParamiteRich's instructions were those of making Abe's Exoddus work on Microsoft XP, in which it should work, as it has for everyone else.

phleg, I would personally send an email off to Microsoft instead of Oddworld Inhabitants, as Oddworld Inhabitants didn't actually create the PC port of Abe's Exoddus :)

Am I the only person who hasn't had a problem with AE on XP?

What version do you have, phleg?
I've got a "replay" infogrames version, and it works fine.

Havoc 04-05-2004 04:21 AM

doesnt work here either... but I have the europian version...
Why does europe alwasys have to be less then America! Why can't we just have the same version!!

T-nex 04-06-2004 01:52 AM

What is this thing between Europian and Amarican version-thing?? Why are there two??
AE doesn't work on my pc too!! I can install it, but when i run the game, a window pops up ans says: Sorry, not supported by Windows NT.
HEELP!

Havoc 04-06-2004 03:10 AM

Same here... 95 compatibel does NOT work with the europian version... at least it hasnt so far...

It may be because you are trying to run a PAL version on an NTSC computer. Or at least that's how the game consoles function. If you want to play it on your computer, you'll most likely have to use illegal software to temporarily change your area (PAL, NTSC, etc).

But, I'm in no way suggesting you do such an illegal thing ;)

T-nex 04-07-2004 10:22 PM

Still, you didn't answer... Why are the two versions??? Grrrr... stupid versions.

Alcar 04-07-2004 11:20 PM

Different languages mostly.

ParamiteRich 04-08-2004 10:20 AM

Have any of you tried my instructions and what version of windows do you have?

Esus 04-17-2004 01:49 AM

I really want to start playing AE again, but I'm in England with Windows XP.
All instructions in this thread don't work, is there any possible way to get it to work?

Splat 05-06-2004 07:29 AM

Yes Rich, most people have. And as far as I can tell, most people cant get it to work, flippin cheap XP!

Alcar, I don't have a clue what that's meant to mean! Anyway, the only thing I know of that we can do is download the demo version and cry over that!
On the other hand you could scream abuse at windows XP, i find that helps me!

Fuzzel X 06-09-2004 04:28 AM

To be honest with u lot, anything that worked on Windows 95 is not going to work on XP, beleave me. I've tried installing other programmes on XP and they don't work, but I'm English and all the games I have r English versions, just so Esus doesn't feel left out.

Anyways, if you check the Oddworld download page for the demos, it does say they won't on XP.

Leeum 06-09-2004 10:34 AM

I managed to get the AE Demo working on Windows XP without having to change any compatibility options etc.

Well lets just say someone would want to use such a program... not me ofcourse, I would never do that... but where exactly could one find such a program? ;)

Alcar 06-20-2004 01:48 AM

No idea. My dad bought one for the [removed so no one can sue me], and it works a treat. He says he got it at a computer store, so maybe you should look around.

WiLL the Wander 06-20-2004 04:18 AM

hmmm... i had an illegal version (please don't hurt me!), but it works perfectly in Xp... and I not changed anything... It just works...

(EDIT: Yeah, but i have a PAL version, with PAL computer...)

EDIT AGAIN: or... i don't know...

Adder 06-20-2004 09:04 AM

So... I seem to have the only LEGAL full-version that works on XP?

Maybe it's an Infogrames thing...

Cloverfield 06-21-2004 01:38 AM

Huh? Computers aren't PAL and NTSC ... they are standard throughout the world, apart from the fact that different monitors might run different refresh settings, etc ... but that is controlled through Windows. The only component of a computer which would have such settings is a TV card [if you wanted to plug your Xbox into your computer for example], and even then they can usually support both formats, just like a TV set can. It's just the consoles themselves that are PAL/NTSC.

I should try to install my games on my computer and see if they work. They always worked on Windows 2000, even though they weren't supposed to.

Alcar 06-21-2004 01:43 AM

Really? I was sure I buy PAL computer games when I do :| The same for DVDs, where there regions are locked. I guess I likened the newer computer games to zone-locked DVDs.

Alcar...

Cloverfield 06-21-2004 01:50 AM

Yeah, DVDs are region coded much like games ... although regions are kind of different again. Like Europe for example shares a region with Japan, and aren't the same region as Australia is [as they are with games]. Fortunately for DVD owners, multi-zoning DVD players are legal, unlike consoles which require a mod chip for such. *curses the hell out of it*

But PC games can be played on any computer [providing the computer's specs can support the game]. A friend of mine imported Diablo 2 from the US when it was first released. The only difference between his version and mine is the design of the discs [acutally, on checking my discs are made in the US, so they must just be newer than his]. He even installed it on my PC before I purchased my own copy of the game.

Then again if something has been added to new PC games, then I might be wrong, as I don't generally buy games for the PC. I'd have to ask my Diablo playing friend as he's a PC game nut. But the Abe games are too old to be affected by anything like that.

Exoddus 02-12-2005 02:34 AM

Can someone help me
I just bought AE on PC and I installed it but when I run the game it says
Sorry, Not Supported on Windows NT!
I allready tried Compatibility WIN95 or WIN98
it doesnt work :(

Exoddus 02-12-2005 02:35 AM

Oh I forgot email me at martin.janus@zoznam.sk

Leeum 02-12-2005 04:13 AM

Well, it seems AE won't work on an NT based OS. Not alot you can do mate.

Gretin 02-12-2005 08:53 PM

That's strange... I'm running XP Professional and Abe's Exoddus works fine - I just install it and run it! I'm not sure what version it is, though, how do I check that?

munchou 02-13-2005 05:04 AM

Yo !
Doesn't work for me too after installing it, but... I've tried it with a crack, and then it works. The problem is that it translates texts into german, but I guess there are other cracks to have english texts. Moreover, I've to copy movies from the CD (because with the crack you don't need the CD and movies are not installed on the comp).
It's the only way I know.

I want to precise that it's not illegal if you have bought the game...

Fuzzleman54321 02-28-2005 09:35 AM

That's strange. How come abe's ODDYSEE works on XP then?

cade 03-19-2005 10:06 PM

AE does work on XP. Look here http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=11379
