Industry or Native?
Which in your opinion is the best? Industry or native? This can be in terms of game design, playability, aesthetics, anything.

I like the natives more than the industries!
But all are very cool! |
I love the native things.
They're cool. .:VaniLLaKiLLah:. |
Hmm, more native fans than I expected. :)
|
I prefer the native. I love the temples, and I love Paramonia so very much.
|
I prefer the wildlife regions because I like the wild creatures. Espechially Paramites.
|
Well then I guese im the first to vote industrial then. That becouse ive always kinde loved techs and I absolutely love the design of all the factory's and stuff.
My all time favorite location is Feeco Depot. |
Wow this is interesting. I was kinda expecting it to be fairly balanced but it seems to be going heavily in favour of Native!
|
I chose Native. I'll hypothesise that the majority of members chose Native because nature itself is considered to be immaculate, and basically "good". All of us sensible (;)) members would naturally go for the "good" side.
Alcar... |
I go with Industrial. I love the native and natural sides of Oddworld every bit, but I see the industrial sectors of Oddworld society as, frankly, much more interesting. It's a bizarre mix of the beautiful (FeeCo Depot) and the disturbing (RuptureFarms), with what seem to me to be much more original designs. I also enjoy its parody of society much more. Whereas the Mudokons can be seen as portraying the issues of youth culture and a decline in spirituality, the limits for the industrial races commentary on Earth seem far from view.
Plus, in my opinion, the industry shown in Oddworld is far more whacky and exotic - everything from the bizarre twisted practices of the Vykkers to the spurious and low-key Daily Deception. I'm intrigued about how the technocratic Mudos society operates. |
Hmm, industry is starting to catch up! This is becoming interesting! :D

Industry. Here are my reasons:
1. The look and style is much more visually appealing. I'm not saying I don't like some of the native environments (Paramonia, the Scrabania/Paramonian temple and Necrum being my allt-time faves), but it's just too much fun looking at how much attention the backgrounds are given. 2. Industrial creatures are fun to draw. I mean, from an artist's standpoint, who DOSEN'T find Vykkers fun to draw? And as I learn how to do it, It becomes more easy over time. I mean, I see SO MANY pictures of Sligs with the pants SO off-model that it's painful to look at. Once you get it, it's easy and fun to draw. (Again, thoug, no to say it isn't fun to draw Abe, Munch or Alf. Mudokons are so much more easy to draw than Glukkons, which I find to have the most stubborn designs.) 3. The aspect of having an evil version of our industry is just refreshing. Like, we don't think of our industrial world as bad, and neither do Gluks, Sligs, Vykkers or new guys we haven't seen yet. But from the native's eyes, it is bad and must be stopped. It's just cool to see our world in a different light. And that's the way it is. I'm Walter Croncite. Goodnight everybody. |
i'm one for industry, they'll win the war.....
|
no... I don't think so... :P. Concerning that, this game quintoligy is just the same as a movie. You know exactly whats gonna happan :P. They will either life in piece or the muds will win... but the industrial side won't ever win... thats a 100% sure.
(Unless Lorne is out of idea's and reads this post :P) |
Well, I think that while the Industrialists are stronger, the Natives are begining to move from the underdog to the equal. There are several examples of this.
For one, you have the chant supressors. Horrible things, every puzzlesolvers bane. But in Munches Oddysee, you see the native answers to these; the native zappers.Need to get somewhere fast but can't find an industrial teleporter? Use a portal! Want a native greeter? Well... to bad, we don't have any. But the natives are catching up. |
Yea they are arn't they? But the gluks arnt stopping their research either... making them always one stem ahead of the muds... untill the muds take one GIANT step!
|
Ok, I copped-out, I voted I liked them equally as much. For the Industrial, well Dipstikk hit it right on the head with this comment:
:
However, I do find the Native environments absolutely breathtaking. It's really hard to choose! |
Im not realy a Fan of the native lands... I like some screens of Necrum and Scrabania though. Like the one's with the big scrab staues and where the camera goes underneath a statue... or the two temple's. I don't like the paramite enviorments thogh... I think those are just plain ugly I.M.O...
|
Its hard for me to say. On one side Industry is so varried and imaginative, whereas Native is also original yet so cultural. In the end I couldn't really decide so I put that I like each one equally as much.

Seargeantbig I don't really think it's a case of the natives catching up with the industrialists, I think its more to do with the fact that these characters have always been on oddworld, and it has just taken this long for a hero like Abe to motivate them into attacking the enemy (although so far they haven't really attacked anything quite as daunting a rupture farms).
Just my 2 cents. |
I still think it'll end in a huge war between the industrials. Over land or money or something.
|
Industry got my vote
but Industry in nature is very close to it! all the environements are very good! each one have their own good sides ;) |
Hmmm. Good point, Death.
I can't remember if this was already suggested or if I came up with it, but the former seems right. Both parts have their own kind of industry. Edit: Ah. That would be it, just above my post. Sorry, Xavier! |
