RULES - Our way or the highway...

It seems a certain few new users are making it their business to complain about the rules. So, in response to this, I would like to lay out a few propositions.
  • One word, two word, three word, and generally any posts that do not add content, opinions, or thoughts to a thread are not allowed. "Yes" or "no" answers are to be given in polls only.
  • Off-topic posts are not allowed.
  • Freedom of speech and expression of opinion is allowed, as long as it does not infringe the rights of others, or offend anybody deliberately.
  • Lying just isn't allowed. Tell the truth about yourself, or don't tell anyting at all.
  • Even though it's not against the rules, being silly is not suggestable. Try to have a humerous and semi-serious outlook toward the forum, but don't go too overboard.
  • If you have a complaint to make, or dislike something about the forum, post a new thread in the Forum Suggestions And Jelp forum, so that an administrator can attend to your complaint. This is much better than posting your complaint in several different threads.
  • We do not wish to know about how the other forums you frequent are run. If you have a suggestion to make about this forum, please do it in the Forum Suggestions And Help forum.

I think you should leave the "Inforcement of rules" to the Mods... Otherwise people are just gonna think your a loser for trying to inforce rules when you have no power over them.

oddguy 04-01-2004 07:52 AM

They're just suggestions...I see nothing wrong with it.

Back again, Death?

No not quite Grig.

propositions.

I'm not enforcing rules, I'm proposing them. You're just jumping at the chance to call me a loser.

Yes.

*1: Excuse me? If I recall correctly, you're quite guilty about that, yourself.
*2: Says who?

Come on, this is stupid. There's no need for you to make up new rules (cuz that's what they are). Stop being a pain in the good old ass...

Firstly, don't call my suggestions stupid. Tell me you aren't in favour of them, fine, but not stupid please. I don't go about calling all your suggestions stupid.

Secondly, I'm not making up new rules. I'm suggesting new rules. I think we've already established that long before you made your post here.

Thirdly, I am interested to know what part of making a suggestion for the rules makes me a pain in the "good old ass"?

I noticed some problems with the rules, and proposed a quick fix solution to them. In fact, most of the rules I suggested are just re-wordings of the original rules. So what part of that, gave you the right to call me a pain in the ass?

1: Excuse me? If I recall correctly, you're quite guilty about that, yourself.

I might've been, and you would've been correct to put me right by pointing out my mistake. Just because I've commited the crime, doesn't mean I can't help prevent it. If anything, I should know better than you what would help stop it.

2: Says who?

Not says, suggests. I suggest. I'm not telling you to follow these rules, I'm suggesting them.

If you don't like them, fine, just say so. It's not like they are going to be implemented whether you like it or not. But you don't need to flame me over just a suggestion.

Majic 04-01-2004 01:19 PM

Posts under 10 characters aren't allowed. It doesn't stop everything, but it helps on the bullcrap.

Off Topicness is allowed. It can give more personality to posters. As long as it stays reasonable, it's fine.

You're right on freedom of speech. And that's emphasized. I've seen no problems with it, though.

People can lie if they want. Though it's usually fairly obvious if someone is, unless they act their part to cover it up. Which I see no problem with, as long as no trouble arises out of it.

Silliness is much like off topicness. Gives more personaltiy, but not to go overboard.

You're right about complaints.

You've made many comparisons regarding this forum and other boards you frequent, haven't you?

Yeah. I'm really pissed off with how I was acting. I got the wake up call when all the other forums I used banned me! So I thought "Right, time to pull the plug on this shit", and decided to change for the better.

On to your point about most of those rules existing, I know, it was really a re-wording mostly. I think it was Clair Bear who was reading the rules in a rather detail pedantic manner that inspired me to make the suggestion. I think that if we re-worded some of them, it might lift some confusion.

Just a suggestion really, nothing harsh. :)

Good for you, death! It takes a real man to admit he's wrong. I've had to do that more than a few times in my life. ;) Glad you're back.

Yes, yes, I was wrong. Oh well. At least I'm right in saying I was wrong. If that makes any sense...

Its ClaireBear with the 'E' (Its the French spelling... meaning bright! But after the total f-up of a quadruple posting on the other thread I'm starting to doubt it!)

Goodness! Are we in almost agreement now? Your rules are

a) too long and detailed for anyone to be arsed to fully read before
registering and posting them hense my immediate double post problem!
b) ditto
c) ditto
d) Scarey! I feel like I'm on the brink of being barred every second that I
type!!!!!

And do I have to IM or do you call it PMing in here any question to anyone thats not within the board or thread topic? As thats gonna be an ickle bit difficult to remember and apply!

You think that these rules are long and scary? I've seen rules that go on, and on.
...and on...
and rules that make a breather an outlaw.
Maybe you should read more often. You'll get used to it. And the rules themselves aren't really so tough, the're to stop newbies from becoming over-enthusiastic. It's glum town over here, right guys?

Read more? Honey... I was reading probably way before you were born! Unless like me you're one of the...er... more aged forum frquenter like myself!

Personally, I never read the rules. Don't intend to either, I just act normally and I seem to get by ok.

I know that my sweet but I've made a huuuuge balls of it already!

I really do feel slightly uncomfortable in here too... what with me almost being old enough to be the mother never mind the sister of some of the posters... I have a tendancy to swear and post innuendo... and well... It just doesn't feel right infront of you youngsters!

Hobo 04-02-2004 04:12 AM

Swear and innuendo all you like. I seem to get away with it.

Actually, unless you gave birth to a child at age 10, none of the posters here are young enough to be your son or daughter.

And please, do not refer to us as "youngsters". It's belittling enough hearing you say you think you're old enough to be our mother, let alone you beleiving that the majority of us aren't even old enough to use "bad words".

I'm 22, Abe Babe is 28, our new member Fuzzles! is 29, and most of the posters here have the maturity of at least an 18 year old. So I seriously doubt you will leave us frozen in awe at your outbursts of exotic expletives.

I'm more than happy to get along with you ClaireBear, despite your infuriating rebellion against the forum system, and irritating chronology complex. But you're going to have to tone it down, otherwise people will just become annoyed with you. They're being nice now, but just wait till say a few weeks later.

Al the Vykker 04-02-2004 06:57 AM

Well even when I disagreed a bit with some of your posts along time ago death, I respected you anyways for having the guts to speak your mind, plus I am always open minded to new ideas, and differences in opinion. Although, I still have respect for you now, but anyways welcome back man.

This thread is idiotic. I mean, most of Death's suggestions are things that at least 90 percent of the people at this board do anyhow. And "real man." I think that is impossible to define and certainly too ambiguos to be useful.

As much as other people got it, some people didn't. ClaireBear is an excellent example of that. So don't call my suggestions "idiotic" please. There is no idiocy behind my posting.

And I hate to bust your bubble, but as unuseful as you think calling me a "real man" was, it was just a complement. Yeah too bad, I got given a compliment, tough shit. Maybe people would compliment you a bit more if you weren't such an insensitive asshole.

oddguy 04-02-2004 12:31 PM

Dude. I never knew a compliment could make people so upset. I better be careful with how I hand them out. :D I gues one man's compliment is another man's insult.
