South Park Season 8

Just saw the Premier of SP Season 8. Very funny, and surprisingly had some very recent political issues. SuperBowl Stunt, The Passion of The Christ...it was there. How long does it take for them to make an episode? They must pump 'em out pretty damn quick.

Anyway, anybody else see it?

Discuss!

Comedy Central is the Channel and it comes on at 11:00 PM Central time I think... I don't know if that helps you or not...

Last nights episode was so funny, though I felt really bad for Butters...

Hobo 03-18-2004 08:57 AM

Personally I can't stand South Park at all, I just don't find it funny. Ok I'll leave before I get yelled at.

oddguy 03-18-2004 09:00 AM

No problem. You're entitled to your own opinion. Personally, I've seen a few episodes of South Park that weren't funny at all, but most of them are really hillarious.

Don't worry Hobo. I watch the show just so I have something to talk about or something I can watch before Chapelles show.

Cartman + nudity = eww!

Sekto Springs 03-18-2004 11:55 AM

I'm not much of a South Park fan either, it's only funny for like 12 year olds, and when you really look at it...it'a always the same. Every episode makes fun of a movie, celebrity, race, religion, etc. and the same humour over and over gets pretty boring after a while.

nads 03-18-2004 12:17 PM

True, the whole anti-semitisim thing doesn't make me laugh anymore.

The ninja one was new and funny...

heh... stupid butters...

Never made me laugh.

It is true that SP follows a formula of comedy that tends to be used repeatedly, especially Kenny getting killed almost every episode, but that's what makes it famous in a sense. Most every episode ends up with the parents upset and the kids talking about what they learned, but what differs is that each episode deals with new topics. I've seen episodes dealing with political and social issues. That's what keeps it fun and interesting.

Then every once and a while you get an episode that is pure crap.

I told the same thing to my friend today. He's said "what other comedy is there".....I was shocked. I personally think that some good clean jokes could out-laugh a dirty joke anyday. One example of bad, mindless humour of South Park is Terrance and Phillip, that is just plain awful and I can't stand them, I agree with Kyle's mom when she says that there's nothing funny about two men farting on each other, save that for Howard Stern.

Ugh, don't get me started on Terrance and Phillip. Totally stupid and disgusting.

You're right SS when you say there is other comedy out there besides dirty. Sometimes, I watch "I Love Lucy" and it is hillarious without being vulgar.

The new episode was distrubing.

However, being the anime geek that I am, I really enjoyed all the satire. The mock-Japanese fight song was great! Messed up subtitles sung by DVDA (I assume)... what more do you want? :D

Sekto Springs 03-18-2004 03:42 PM

You don't have to dis youself to make us happy, Luke. You're simply an anime FAN, not a geek. :D

I sold all of my Magic: The Gathering cards for the entire set of Boogiepop Phantom. If that's not geeky, I don't know what is...

Sekto Springs 03-18-2004 03:48 PM

It's worth it for an entire set :p

It was a hillarious anime spoof. I had that mock japanese song stuck in my head all day.

I was caught off guard when Kenny throws the ninja-star at "Professor Chaos" and hits him right in the eye...then it pulls back to reality and Butters actually has a ninja-star lodged in his eye.

With the Naked Cartman saying he had a "wardrobe malfunction" and all the other hillarious antics, South Park was bloody hillarious.

Dude, I totally agree. When shows or comedians have to stoop so low to get laughs like vulgarity and violence, it's just stupid. Not funny at all...just desperate. Trying to hit the lowest common denominator.

I really respect comedians who can get a lot of laughs with good, clean, witty stuff.

oddguy 03-18-2004 06:43 PM

Ooooh, if you guys like something funny without the use of vulgarity, I suggest watching "Monk" on USA. It's really fun.

Really? I've heard good things about that show...I can never catch it though. I'll try it though.

oddguy 03-18-2004 07:07 PM

The series finale was last week, so you'll end up watching re-runs...but it's one of those shows you can jump right into with going, "Huh?" I started watching it last year and I've been hooked.

I think they're gonna start re-playing this last season though... Monk is so funny! Tony Shaloub does a great job acting!

I watched that...it was weird, but hey, better than South Park, imo.

Statikk HDM 03-19-2004 06:06 AM

Tony owns as an obsessive-compulsive detective but I'm getting really dissapointed with South Park. Not only is the overall quality of the show declining it has spawned a bunch of pretenders that are even worse than itself. I thought that Terrence and Phillip was more self-deprecating than anything else because its South Park's way of dealing with the cheap laughs that it and its kin try for every night. Its like they were going out of their way to ram eggs on themselves. This seems like a show aimed at children but claiming to be "adult" because who talks about? Little kids. Who watches it for the curse words, violence , and vulgarity? Little kids. Maybe in episodes there are a few adult references that I'll get a kick out of (The Ayn Rand book slayed me) but more often than not the episodes are shit with a couple of decent one liners. I'm also getting fed up with all the knocks on Judaism. Seriously, when is Cartman going to get his fat ass handed to him Kyle and stop with all of the friggin' "funny" racism? I've got pretty much the same beefs with The Simpsons as this show. It seems that I've either grown out of them or the quality has gone down. I think for both shows it is a little of both.

Watch the League of Gentlemen.
Now that is a comedy. Or Darth Marengi's Dark Place... :D

Fez 03-20-2004 10:23 AM

i still think Alan Partridge is the best....

Hobo 03-20-2004 10:31 AM

Alan Partridge is great, but I prefer Little Britain

Esus 03-20-2004 10:40 AM

Have you even seen The League of Gentlemen? Or Monkey Dust? hehe, Monkey Dust is very... dark comedy
