Shop Hack Poll
 

This is a poll for all those who agree, and all those who disagree with the implementation of a shop hack.

Before you vote, I'd like to run through a few pros and cons of the Shop Hack.

PROS:

• Allow us to reward exceptional effort with "cash bonuses".
• Allow members to modify their custom title
• Allow members to modify their star colors
• Reward productive members with more of a personalised "identity"

CONS:

• May cause extra spamming. (mild)
• Might create the odd fight.
• Might make Alcars "super-mod" account look less flashy.

I really like this idea, but the issue of spam is very present and could get out of hand. I do think a reward system of some kind needs to be implemented, but I doubt it will happen...now anyway. Alcar and Abe Babe are busy people.

Here's a con though...if everyone has rewards and cool features, then they become less special if all the members have them.

Each post = $1, each item costs = $500 - $1000.

I would, for instance, have 770+ dollars in my wallet.

I doubt spam would get out of hand. I've hardly noticed any right now, as it it is. Mods sit around twidling their thumbs. I don't see why people are so worried about spam, anywho. Yes, it can be annoying. Yes, in excess it's a major problem. Yes, it shares the name of a meat made of an unknown substance. The staff is perfectly capable of handling it, though:p I feel untrusted.

The hack sounds good, anyways.

The Oddworld Forums are a place to discuss Oddworld primarily, and off topic discussions as an added bonus. By adding to many things we are straying from the original intention of the Oddworld Forums - to discuss Oddworld.

Oh...come on, Alcar's not a bad guy.

Yes he is. The argument is 4 to 1 against him. Yet he still disregards the opinions of the people that make his forum what it is.

If it wasn't for us, his forum would be worth jack shit, and look at him now, he doesn't give a **** for us. I don't see how the shop can possibly distract us from the point of this forum. This forum is a forum, it's a community, but to alcar it might as well be an OW techhelp.

I mean what ****ing harm could it do eh? The most people would be able to do is change the look of their account, or donate money to someone! And it isn't as though it would take some huge effort to implement it.

Alcar may do something with VB3's Promotion system, as he said here in the "Hmmmmm" thread, so I wouldn't get upset with Alcar just yet.;) He's a good guy and has something planned to make us all happy in the end, I'm sure.

Quite honestly I think the promotions system is a pretentious waste of time. Especially when such a system is run by moderators/administrators giving the promotions.

I'd rather see an automated reward scheme, like a very snazzy rank system. Which is basically what shop hack is.

An automated forum doesn't care wether it likes you or not, it gives you the reward for whatever the criteria is. However, forum nazis such as Alcar, tend to hate and favour people in the extreme - so gauranteed, all of Alcars 'friends' will get a promotion, and all of the people who dislike him will just get some embaressing rank.

I mean, sure, this promotion system may well be automated, but not only can I not be bothered to check, I also fail to see it ever being as good as shop hack.

I'll just take whatever I can get.

I'd rather be rewarded with something I want, than something the admins want.

Shop hack lets you do that. It lets you choose your desired star color, or preferred custom title. And lets face it, we've been begging for these features for such a long time.

You could always ask Abe Babe in PM...politely...if you really think this would help out the forums. I personally think this would be a great idea.

I would rather wait for Abe Babe to "come back" to the forums. She seems inactive at the moment.

I presented my argument. As for Abe Babe, both her and I agree that the forums have strayed from their original friendly, and community centered orietation. However, I cannot speak on her behalf regarding this shop hack.

Regarding the shop hack, it is a hack more suited for forums like Final Fantasy. Because Final Fantasy actually has an inventory / shop system, and can be worked into the forums easier.

Custom titles are awarded to members we feel deserve them. Of course, there are members we would like to reward with custom titles now. However, because the ratio of members we feel deserve custom titles and the number of active members is so similar, there would be few members without custom titles.

Therefore we restrict ourselves in handing out too many custom titles.

You are an admin, on a forum. Why can't you just be chilled out and down to earth? People like you give forum admins in general a bad name. You are undedicated, lazy, and as soon as the forum expands in some way you hadn't planned for, out comes the nazi ruler to check how many centimeters the seams need pushing back.

I am not lazy, and I am dedicated to the forums. However, I have cut my time on the forums as School has pushed even more pressures on me. The next two years, I intend to do good, and so far I am. This however, means I need to compelete my homework, and assessment tasks.

I'm sorry for striving for a good mark in School. As in reality School comes first.

Is the shop hack we're talking about here the one based upon ratings, so if everyone thinks a post is irrelevant crap they vote a - and lose moneh (Like the weebl and bob forums) or another hack?

Peter is right in one sense that the opinion of the masses is not always correct, but death is presenting a valid idea, and so seeing both these arguments the only suggestion I can come up with is a trial run, for a small time, with (maybe) a limited number of active members, chosen at random.

But on the other hand, you shouldn't trust me as I know shit.

The weebl and bob forums are a role model that this forum should follow. I personally post there, and everyone loves me, in return I love them back. Your posts get rated, + ratings give you + money, - ratings lower your money. Also, each time you post, you get $1 too, so a combination of postcount, and user approval.
