Anti-Porn laws: Good or bad?

Well, recently Bush typed in "free porn" on a search site and got over 6 million sites. Well, duh. The internet exsists for 3 reasons
Conversing with people
Looking at nudie pics
Conversing with people while looking at nudie pics.
And whats he going to do? Block a bunch of unapproved sites like Communist China? With Ashcroft as the AG this could happen. This administration's already proved it doesn't give a rat's ass about the Constitution.
Put on porn blockers on internet terminals? Please. Don't bother, these things are so easy to get around they're pointless. Delete them off your compute and make it go a good 3 or 4 percent faster. As a side note, if your virus detection software is over 2 years old update it or scrap it for more room.
Also, we have a right to privacy and if that means unborn babies can be killed for the sake of conveniency it sure as hell means people have the right to look at porn. I mean, nearly 100 percent of people who have been surveyed have admitted to looking at or downloading porn from the internet. And the other people are lying.

Esus 03-05-2004 11:47 AM

I'm pretty confident Bush can't decide what sites are made by the British and what I view on my computer - so it doesn't affect me in the slightest. Not that it would, anyway.

oddguy 03-05-2004 11:57 AM

The internet is called the information super highway for a reason. The net doesn't exist because of porn. I'm sure that's your main reason for using it, but not mine. People like me use it for information purposes.

Here's the problem with Porn on the web. You have sites out there with children being raped and sick people looking at it, which is not only wrong...it's disgusting. And that's only one example I'm using.

Okay, if you want to look at women who are willingly posing nude, get a Playboy and shut up.

The internet started out as a tool for good, but like anything good, you can mis-use it for the purpose of wrong.

as long as its there if i were to ever need it, and not there when i dont need it its okay.

Peadiphyllia is illegal. If the police find downloaded child pornography on one's computer then one could be arrested for having viewed it.
If they were to somehow block computers out of these sites (as if they know the urls and the like...) people would still get around it. Even if they resorted to only viewing it through email from the child porn supplier.
If they were to them censor Outlook Express and not let anything get sent to the inbox without being viewed by a government employee, then the wanter of such material would get a free account which is unlikely to be censored. www.imaterrorist.com for example, is such a free email giving site that would probably not censor emails.
Same goes for normal, over 18 porn.

Statikk HDM 03-05-2004 12:40 PM

Obviously Oddguy I'm not down with anything that is illegal such as incest, rape, or porn invloving minors. That is disgusting and just plain wrong. I think a bigger problem is people using the Internet to get "information." Like using hydroponics to grow Marijauna like a pro, whip up a hearty batch of C-4, and learn of security flaws and buffer overflows so they can screw people over. How about Bush goes after the things that matter such as
Illegal porn( seriously, this stuff is VILE)
Drug sites
Warez sites
Virus rings
Hacking rings
"Jolly Roger" type web pages
Pages advocating violence, terrorism, or racism( This is a lot worse than a couple of boobs if you ask me!)

Jacob 03-05-2004 12:51 PM

I don't think anybody should be able to dictate whats right or wrong for people to view. Although on Oddguys view i agree, anything remotely focused around harming others for sexual/perverse gratification should be banned and the person distributing/making it should be executed. However, porn is a healthy tool used by teenagers to explore their sexuality and to explore what turns them on/doesn't turn them on. Not only that but it is keeping the porn industry in business.

Now, i used to do the typical teenage thing of downloading it/looking at it etc and i feel it helped me to develop as a person.

Now, there's the whole topic of what one class' as porn. Will this include erotic literature? Semi-nakedness? Men/women scantily clad with lotion rubbed into their skin? At the end of the day, there's going to be something everybody is aroused by, from animals to chairs. From 3sums to Giraffes. You can't censor everything.

Anyway, at the end of the day if you abolish pornography, which allows people to fulfill their sexual desires by themselves, you will inevitably cause a sudden surge of people fulfilling their fantasies by actually performing those acts in real life. Which, in some instances, is IMMENSLY dangerous.

'People like me use it for information purposes.'

Certain types of "porn" can be used as information. Such as how to stimulate a woman/man so she/he has a stronger climax. Ban the stuff that causes harm to the participants, but don't ban the whole lot. Its ridiculous.

True true. I totally agree.

Another thing...creators of porn sites making their url someting common is wrong...like I remember hearing about whitehouse.com being a porn site and some kid accidently stumbled onto it thinking he could find info about The White House. Stuff like that is harmful. Also, the stuff Statikk mentioned...Bush should really target those.

But average, non-law-breaking porn sites can function, I guess...I'm not visiting them, so they're not bothering me.

Sekto Springs 03-05-2004 06:17 PM

Yes, whitehouse.com is one of the largest porn sites with a misleading name. There have been countless incidents at my school where we have logged on to that site and found something quite different to our surprise, it's not as common anymore though, so many people know about it. I suppose there should be a law against misleading sites like those. I'm not all for abolishing porn, I'm not a frequent viewer of porn and I already have a girlfriend. I'm not that desperate (real life's much better anyway). But I know a number of people across the county who's lives would be miserable without porn. Hardcore porn is just wrong, Soft Viagra porn isn't that bad, and then there's Sports Illustrated. I guess porn should be legal but with a price, FREE porn sites have to go.
(I'm surprised hearing such a thing from Bush who's probly a frequent viewer of porn)

:dodgy:

Hobo 03-06-2004 12:28 AM

Well, I do think that if you just type in a URL like whitehouse.com, without googling it, or going there before is a bit moronic,

Legal porn should not be removed as it's your choice to whether you want to view it, and if you stumble onto a website without wanting to, you only have to close the browser (And fight off the pop-ups), as it's been said there are much worse things on the internet than legal porn. Most of these people on the camera are getting paid to do this kind of thing, so they're obviously willing to do it...

Anyway, a nice little parody type link thing:

Jacob 03-06-2004 04:22 AM

' Hardcore porn is just wrong'

Define "Hardcore" please. When i think "Hardcore" i don't necessarily think 'Watersports' etc like i assume you're suggesting.

'Stuff like that is harmful.'

I don't see how exactly its harmful.

oddguy 03-06-2004 06:08 AM

Jacob, use quotes for crying out loud! It's always hard to tell who you're challenging for a response. Anyway, as far as I can tell, the 'Stuff like that is harmful' quote comes from me.

Anyway, I said a child stumbling onto a misleading url site is harmful. Most times a child doesn't know what he/she is viewing and it could be scary. I stumbled onto a naughty site in my earlier years and it showed this guy "releasing his soldiers" right into this girls face. Scared the hell out of me!

...several million pale-skinned, overweight men wearing glasses and Red Dwarf T-shirts stormed out of the basement apartments of their parents' houses and took to the streets with burning torches...

"This is the holy Shiite month of Muhara, the most sacred time of the year," said Majid Pourreza, pointing a plastic laser blaster into the air. "Ptyoo! Ptyoo!"

"This is a momentous occasion," says top American administrator L. Paul Bremer. "The Ruling Goathead will rule all with a swift hoof of cruel justice. Those who oppose the Goathead will be reported to one of the local governing wizards who serve under the unblinking vigilence of the Goathead's lidless Goateye, and will be forced to carry all disputes into the holy Thunderdome. Two men enter, one man leaves. All hail the Goathead."
What a great site, hobo.

Hobo 03-06-2004 06:55 AM

It is a wonderful site, their caption competiton provides much laughter for my and my comrades

Society in Ruins...

...after several million pale-skinned, overweight men wearing glasses and Red Dwarf T-shirts stormed out of the basement apartments of their parents' houses and took to the streets with burning torches. Government officials were pulled from their cars and beaten to death by the throngs of madmen, who had apparently spent years exercising the strength of their good arms, giving them the ability to thrash men to death with their quick, repetitive jabbing motions.

The mob also singled out children for reasons they refused to explain, taking great delight in causing substantial psychological, physiological and physical damage to them.

Seriously funny, hobo.

Jacob 03-06-2004 08:03 AM

'and it showed this guy cuming right into this girls face.'

I find this remark offensive. Can a mod please change it to 'and it showed this guy relieving his sexual tension onto the front part of the head of somebody of the opposite sex'. This way, little children will have no idea what the Hell is going on.

'Scared the hell out of me!'

Oddguy, you can't classify something as harmful or dangerous just because you yourself is/was afraid of it. Besides, didn't you ask your parents to explain?

And on the quote thing, i don't use quotes because it takes too much time and i assumed that people would know what they have said without me saying who they are.

Hobo 03-06-2004 08:09 AM

Another thins, why is bush trying to spend that amount of money trying to protect kids from something which is probably not harmful to society in the slightest, than spending money on helping to improve the state of children in Iraq, who are having to live through fear because they have no actual government (I barely consider the Bush Admin. to be a government to the U.S, never mind Iraq)

I had something else to say here but I've forgotten it, I'll edit it in if I remember

Oh come on, I know any young child without knowledge of what was going on would be terrified.

Jacob 03-07-2004 10:17 AM

Did you ask your parental units?

Sekto Springs 03-07-2004 11:23 AM

I don't think people ask their parents about this type of thing anymore, they already know everything from porn and TV. Another reason why interactive/free porn should be banned.

Jacob 03-07-2004 12:59 PM

But Oddguy didn't know about this, he was shocked, confused and in fear for his life!! Would this mystery man appear from the shadows whilst he was asleep and relieve his sexual tension onto the front part of his head!?

'Another reason why interactive/free porn should be banned.'

Erm, what was your reason again?

Codek 03-07-2004 01:24 PM

"Oh no, my beloved porn is being blocked by that evil, evil, Mr. G dubya. Now I'll have to draw my own porn in ms paint!"

Dear god, would it really matter that much to you if free porn sites were blocked? Woe betide all those that can't enjoy a good e-wank for nothing.

Jacob 03-07-2004 01:58 PM

Was that directed at me? Because i don't watch/look at porn. I'm just arguing it shouldn't be banned because its a healthy part of a persons/teens development.

Sekto Springs 03-07-2004 02:02 PM

:

So kids aren't misleaded by porn into thinking sex is 'naughty' or 'just for fun' when it's really a serious and intimate matter.

Codek 03-07-2004 02:27 PM

:

Was that directed at me? Because i don't watch/look at porn. I'm just arguing it shouldn't be banned because its a healthy part of a persons/teens development.

It's directed at all people who whinge and bitch about stuff they aren't supposed to have in the first place.

Porn is a masturbation aid. It helps you perform the most lonely, pathetic act humanly possible. Why should you have some sort of "god given" right to it?

I think it would be perfectly justified of Bush to make free-porn illegal. Or indeed, any form of adult material easily available to underaged kids. And even I think Bush is a ****ing idiot.

Porn is pathetic, gutter business. It's like cigarrettes, alcohol, and drugs. We all think we should have a right to them, but only because we are minds are too clouded with the desire for such trash to see that it's wrong anyway.

A stoned drug addict will tell you that he should have a right to his weed. A drunk alcoholic will tell you that he should have a right to his drink. A dying, lung-cancer patient will tell you that he wished he never ****ing bothered.

Sober up people. Stop thinking with your balls.

Jacob 03-07-2004 03:33 PM

And what about the people who, without porn, would go and fulfill their fantasies in real life? For example, a guy likes to watch Snuff movies of [willing] people who have sex and then kill another...he can't get access to this and thus goes out and does it himself. Another guy likes to watch animal porn...he can't get this, so he goes and gets it himself.

'Sober up people. Stop thinking with your balls.'

The theory of people who defend porn and think that it shouldn't be banned means that these people watch it is naive and, in my case, wrong, grow up.

'It helps you perform the most lonely, pathetic act humanly possible.'

Yes, but that act is also a natural one. Besides, you're saying masturbation is a lonely and pathetic act...but is that the case when a child who cannot/doesn't want to have sex is masturbating. Sure, i agree with you somewhat when its a grown man, but even then its normal.

'Or indeed, any form of adult material easily available to underaged kids.'

Can we clear-up what we mean by underage, because i think thats the main problem we're having. When i think "underage" i think kids under the age of 13. Any comments?

'Porn is pathetic, gutter business.'

Where the Directors and Actors earn loads. I don't see it as pathetic or gutterish, people have got to work and if they want to do that then fine, some may call it exploitive, sure, but on who's part?

'So kids aren't misleaded by porn into thinking sex is 'naughty' or 'just for fun' when it's really a serious and intimate matter.'

1) Their parents/school should inform them that it is an intimate matter.
2) Kids who think that shouldn't be having intercourse then, should they.

But once again we are left with the question "what is porn?". Is 'The Karma Sutra' porn?

Majic 03-07-2004 04:51 PM

It all depends on maturity, really. Age, processing, useage, effect, etc... It all depends on the maturity of the beholder. Anyways, I don't think free porn should be banned, anywho. Kids should learn better searching habbits in the first place. Plus, it'll teach them a lesson about spy/adware when they get it installed. Hehe.
