Why are people entertained by magic?
Magicians have to be some of the biggest scam artists out there. Not only do they get rich performing b.s. "magic" they're tight-lipped liars. They always try to keep up that mystical aura and trick people into thinking they've got superpowers. When television artists show them for the pompous hucksters and windbags that they are they cry like little bitches. Guess what, magicians, your act just got WRECKED. The only people more demented than magicians are the people who find their trite acts entertaining. What a bunch of slack-jawed dupes! They're paying good money to see a guy give them a big 'ol mindscrew and they love every minute of it! I'm very happy to see the magic t.v. special wane in popularity.Hell, it used to seem that there would be one of these pieces of trash on every weekend!

I'm pretty indifferent to magic. It is quite interesting to watch because it's oftetimes so hard to work out how something has been done.

Wow, you're on a topic role tonight, Statikk.
I enjoy magic, though not vividly. I've never seen it as someone trying to prove they have supernatural powers, that's merely the guise they take. Of course it's all about deception, but then so is politics, and, meaning no offence, you seem fascinated by that. Magic is just like one of those mind-bending puzzles where you have to divide a square into X pieces using Y lines, or get corks to hold together while floating in water, or figure out just how someone in a story knew what they knew. The fun doesn't come from being under the impression it's a load of power that transcends our realm, it comes from wondering how they did it. Or at least that's how it is for me. |
Ditto. I'm also facinated by death defing stunts. Like people jumping over the grand canyon on a motercycle or some guy being help upside down fifty feet in the air, tied up and trying to get free while the ropes suspending him the air are on fire.

The interest comes in the contemplation of how something was pulled off. Or, if you want to get philisophical, how the mind can be tricked and persuaded by simple visual illusions.

I guess I have more respect for street magicians than these "death-defying" assholes. Their stunts are like rollercosters:Perfectly safe. Hell, if I knew the way to do those insane stunts I could bust them all night and my pulse wouldn't even raise! Why don't schmucks like David Blaine and David Copperfield go have a match of Russian Roulette. The loser dies, the winner must quit "magic" for life.

I love magic its rather entertaining for me. My friends brother is an awesome magician. Mann You should see some of the stuff he does with cards and shit. He can make a quarter float over a card and the illusion of that is absolutely professional. His name is Chuck. He is currently going to Kent State University and Studying the arts which Kent State is well known for as an art school. Infact I am going there when I graduate from my current school. I live like five min from the city of Kent which is a very artsy Hollywood studio like town. Its like a mini Hollywood with a playhouse theater and all kinds studios for all kinds of artists in my area. Anybody who thinks that its all magic powers really needs get a life because it is a form of art which I respect. Being an artist myself and knowing that artist of all catagorys are illusionist in one way or another the magicians are another kind illusionist that I respect which would be one of top types of artist I like. Without magic and smoke and mirrors you wouldn't have motion pictures.
Without us artist and magicians you people would not have entertainment. Because you wouldn't have beautiful scenes and great sets of all kinds and there wouldn't be any special effects. Magicians are special effect artist because they perform smoke and mirror and all kind slide of hand tricks that is essential when working with puppets and miniatures even in cases with CGI puppets in film. What usually happens a performing magician or illusionist creates their effect in front of a blue screen and then later an Illustrator would matt over a CGI character. So I would think twice about Magicians beacuse without them there would be no movies. All these shows you see on TV or on the street can all be put into practical use in film makeing. Infact its essential. |
My biggest beef with magicians are the types that pretend to actual have mystical power and these clowns that "defy death." Chuck's tricks seem pretty badass so he gets a pass.

Actually most entertainment relies on stuff that doesn't happen (Hasn't happened) such as Books and films and the like, what makes it interesting is that you know that they can't possibly do that and that it isn't real, but as your brain usually finds no plausable reason for it, it's somehow entertainment.
Or some shit like that. |
