The Elephants gave birth to a 1000 Mice...EACH!!

Just a query really, are the forums awry or something when it comes to how many views a topic has got? Because in one of my fics, 'Making Amends', which is quite short with only two chapters in thus far, the viewing figure says '50' and so i'm thinking there may be some kind of mistake going on.

Before I viewed this thread, it had zero views. Now it says one. Then I logged out and came back to see if it would recount me and it didn't. The count still stands at one. Each member must be counted as one view no matter how many times they visit I guess.

EDIT: That's weird. Directly after I posted I went to see the thread count and now it says 18 and there aren't even that many people on right now.

Testing. I'm going to reply again and see what happens to the view count.

-oddguy :fuzcool:

EDIT: Hmmm. Still 18 views. I can't figure out this wacky system. Maybe because I allready posted once or something. Ow...my head hurts. All I know is...the view counter isn't accurate.

So natrually, 2000 people have viewed the "Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer" topic? Just assume it's weird. Everything is weird.

Like my cat, for instance. Weighs 14 pounds, has no dignity, and eats patato chips, but do I ask questions? No- I just laugh.

oddguy 03-01-2004 12:16 PM

That is weird! Another thing I noticed...Majic, look at the view count. It still says 18...even though you obviously had to view the thread to post. Strange. Does the view counter think it can tell the future or what?

It counted my view, which makes me far superior when contrasted with the likes of you non-view-county mortals.

:p

Counters do not update automatically, this applies to threads and attachments. The reason we have it on, is updating database records locks tables, thus it will have to complete an "update" before it can "select" data.

So, by doing it every hour or less it reduces the load and locking of the database, as it does it all in one batch.

It does count every view, it cannot (at the moment) be unique views.

Thanks for explaining...

No. Your technical excuses and confusing reasonings are absurdly abstract and incomprehensible. Be quiet now, fool. Don't make me know the answers, because god damnit, I like asking questions.

I have no idea what you are saying, but the counter system does seem inaccurate now that I look at it, or maybe it's these magic pills i'm taking? :smokin:

Alcar 03-02-2004 08:08 PM

The counters are accurate, it's just accurate to every hour.
