How Peculiar...
I went to IGN to see if they had anything new on Stranger, but of course they didn't. Anyway, I clicked on the Pre Order link for this game and found something interesting....

June 1st, 2004 eh? I hope that's a real release date.

There can't be an Oddworld Munch's Oddysee 2.It would be called Munch's Exoddus right?
And OWI has been working on Stranger. There's no way in hell that there is going to be a MO2 this year, after they have made the stranger game. |
maybe its some sort of secret bonus game?
|

Personally, I think it is a load of rubbish - but we was all expecting it before July anyway, right? |

Good find sligslinger :)
I've reported it on Oddworld Universe and given you credit for discovering it. Alcar... |
You fools. Abe Babe reported this on Oddworld-Web in October last year, and there was a topic about it then. The MO2 title is just an ignorant placeholder name used by everyone from GameSpot to GameFAQS. The same name was used by the video game store PA mentioned as having the release date ages ago. The release date is also completely unfounded speculation. Alf said he'd let us know as soon as OWI themselves know.
There's nothing new or interesting here, loofs. :p |
I am no loof, I was not aware that it was already posted, but Alcar mentioned in his report that this has been said before so there shouldn't be any misunderstanding. I guess you can close this thread unless anyone else has something to say
|
Wasn't that date that Alf said was not true?
Or is this new? anyway, it's not MO2 :p |
Dammit! Stop confusing me! :crying:
|
There were two dates released, one found by PA at a game store. This one was dismissed by Alf. Although, the one Sligslinger has produced is yet to be dismissed.
Like I mentioned on Oddworld Universe, it is a date we cannot take too seriously. Alcar... |
Alf said that the only real release date will be published on Oddworld.com first! not on a selling site...
I don't think we can trust this |
It also says Microsoft is developing it... it might just be me but inst the oddworld quintoligy made by OWI? :)
|
microsoft is only publishing it... not devloping it...
|
It would be most excellent if that date was the real date and it just might be that the game is released during the mid to tail of summer. But this is a time of unexpected delays. If that were the date OWI had 2 years ago that doesn't mean a thing. Also, most of these "launch" and "ship" dates are usually off by a good couple of months and I really don't trust these magazines and net publications. Not only that, but I'm a bit of a heretic when it comes to the date that OWI will even give us! There were as I recall a coule of rather large delays to MO. Delays can come out of nowhere because bugs might come up, they want to make serious modifications to an aspect of the game or they might want to schedule it more competitively so its not drowned out by some other hot-ticket game. The PC and videogame world is rife with such examples, for instance Malice, Halo 2, and Half Life 2.
I'm POSITIVE that this game will NOT be MO2 because the OWI has emphatically and repeatedly stated that the next game would be the third in the quintology. End of story. Now my two bits of speculation about the release date: It doesn't seem all that friggin' likely that the game will drop a scant 15 days after E3. I don't think Lanning would be speaking because I'm pretty sure that before the game is launched he has a ton of stuff on his plate. Also, even though there were some articles about this game none of it has really been that open or mainstream. Before MO dropped there was a blitzkrieg of ads on the net, in magazines, and especially on the air. This company has put out some pretty badass commercials in the past and its almost certain they'll do it again. In fact, I expect a lot more advertising since this game seems to be much better than the already sweet MO in terms of not only graphics but plot and characters. Finally, this game has yet to go gold, doesn't have the units ready to go, and seems pretty careful. Its holding the cards real close to its vest and refuses to disclose much of anything about Stranger. If this game was a little over 3 months to release people wouldn't be on edge and would be bragging about this game openly. |
:
On another note regarding the unpredictability of release dates, I heard a story about Sierra (who had a reputation of always keeping to their promised dates). One of their games was having problems right at the last moment so they actually sent out empty boxes to all the computer game stores and later apologised and claimed that their packaging department had made a mistake! I heard it from a former employee of Sierra. |
I am keeping an open mind now with OWI because we don't know the next game of the quintology other than Munch's bonus game. Hell for all we know Lanning might have a new quintology character we don't even know about yet. Squeek was a working rumor I guess and I bet $100.00 Lanning has changed a lot of things we were under the impression of to something far more different and impressive.
I mean look at Stranger he's concurrent with the quintology thus his game is not apart of it. How many of these concurrent games will we be seeing? The quintology is the main stories of Oddworld but there are so many other stories and aspects we are beginning to learn now. Thus I believe Lanning is starting to work on his other stories outside of the quintology. Stranger is part of that. If you ask me it reminds me of the Star Wars Universe on how theres the saga and then all these other smaller stories that tell about other things that happen in that world or galaxy or what not ya know. Remember Lorne made Oddworld when he was a kid so I am pretty sure its going to be something totally different than what we think in the form of movies and maybe even books aswell. |
:
|
Did Lorne really come up with oddworld when he was a kid? I got the impression that he was older
|
He was working at Rhythm and Hues when the stories were formed. That's not to say they can't have been based on very preliminary ideas that were floating around Lorne's mind when he was a kid, but that's not the way the legend is told.

If you take a look at the site and look up character biographies underneath it are inspirational links that helped to the intire story.
The Oddworld Quintoligy ofcourse has many true facts in it allthough the characters are all made up. Religion for example plays an important role in the games, slavery is still a big isseu in some country's and ofcourse mankind who is distroying Nature is likely to be compared with the glukkons destorying the sacred lands only for profits making them look pretty much human (in an overdone kinda way since glukkons will dispose of anyone willing to achiefe their goal). But not only earth problems are an inspiration, there are some hidden in the story as well. The plot of chopping up the workers of a meat factory actualy is a true story which happand durring some wars when animal import was no longer available. (happand mainly during WW 1 but I can be mistaking). Digging up bones makes a small connection to animal killing for bones (think of Elephants and Tigers) for religieus reasons or just being a sourvenir. Soulstorm Brew Makes a verry obvios connection with alcohol addictment which is getting a bigger problem every year. Munch being the last gabbit around makes you think of earth species getting close to extinction and what we try to stop it. And last but not least... the nice name changes: Slog > Dog Meep > Sheep Sea-rex > T-rex There... this post became a little longer then intended. |
A brilliant post, Havoc - OWI takes dozens of issues and uses Oddworld to convey them. Animal testing, the junk food industry, deforestation and even alien abduction are more topics that have been covered in just the first three games.
Unfortunately your banner is absolutely massive - please check the Forums rules. I'd provide a link, but I can't actually find them... |
I get the point, Il make it a tad smaller just for you ;).
|
Good man. :)
Apparently the rules had lost somewhere in the transition to vB3, so I don't blame you at all. Alcar should let us know when he's reinserted them. EDIT: And indeed he has. http://www.oddworldforums.net/showth...243#post146243 |
il get right trough them
