Is there a way to improve the human body, without sideeffects?

Just wondering if there was a way to imrove the human body without sideeffects. Like Regeneration, Improved lifetime, the human body can become stronger and faster, without this: You can cause serious damage to you knuckles if you punch too hard.
Do you understand?

Joshy 02-20-2004 01:46 PM

Go get a religion, i prefer Joshism. They will provide you the key to immortality.

Fez 02-20-2004 10:46 PM

nanomachines.

Jacob 02-21-2004 01:48 AM

Who'd want to live forever? Unless you're somekind of powerful, rich, unstoppable being.

Lucipher 02-21-2004 05:38 AM

We could try selective breeding on people for example we will only let strong and fast people breed and anyone who is slow and weak will have their genitals removed.

Ironic thats coming from you.

Loup Garou 02-21-2004 11:59 AM

That's also a way to solve it. But, if you were a god, would create your own human being. How would it be? Would you create a human without any weakness at al?

Sekto Springs 02-21-2004 12:09 PM

If such a being was created then they would have to be controlled in such a way that they cannot use their powers unless absolutely necessary or else all hell could brake loose. The average human these days is arrogant and power-mad deep down and if they had such advances they would try anything to get what they want. There is but a selective few of people in the world that aren't like this, I guess it would be okay for these few to have these strengths but nowadays they all have the opposite problems.

Loup Garou 02-21-2004 12:19 PM

Eeerrrm...you have a point there!

Majic 02-21-2004 12:47 PM

How about a well-balanced diet and regular exercise?

Shame on you! This is the 21st century! We shouldn't have to exercise, they should have magical weight loss drugs that are effective within 3 days! Another thing the gov't is keeping under raps no doubt!

You just summed up the basic premise behind Lord of the Rings!:p

Wait. Oh yeah, I remember...

We could do it without side-effects - but it will take a lot of fine tuning. For example, we could make our fingers longer and more slender if we wanted to, but we would probably have more chance of getting arthritis. We would then need to do a lot more research and experimenting to stop arthritis coming up - but it would take a while.

I don't agree with this statement in the slightest.

Loup Garou 02-22-2004 03:30 AM

Hmm..so what you are saying Esus, is that there IS a way, but it will take like...a hundred years or so only for studying? And then after you spent these hundreds of years of studying, then propably there will be another kind of sideeffect. You have a point.

Esus 02-22-2004 03:45 AM

yep, thats right.

Why, are you implying that you're one of the "good" people out there, I said most humans not all humans. If you had bothered to read a little more of what I posted than you'll see that I also mentioned those who are not corrupt.

A perfect example would be Hitler, he was given power and look what he did to the world.

Esus 02-22-2004 04:06 AM

Yes, I know what you meant, I just think that the majority of people aren't like that. I could be wrong though :s

About Hitler, he wasn't currupted by power, he was already currupt. He had the exact same policies when he was giving speeches in pubs and had no power.

Jacob 02-22-2004 06:04 AM

I think my Orkhid characters would make thooper human beings.

All dark haired [aside from the odd pure white haired person].
Eyes ranging from purple to green.
Black blood.
Enhanced sight, hearing, strength.

But even though they have all this they're still racist, homophobic and xenophobic...to an extent.

Isn't everybody?

Statikk HDM 02-25-2004 10:43 AM

This reminds me of Half-Life 2 with all the mods you can give your character. I know a lot of people freak when they think about stuff like that, but I see it as a marvelous thing. I'm fairly confident that headjack-interface computers ala The Matrix and modifications through nanotechnology will be created in my lifetime.

People laugh in my face when I bring headjack-interface computers up until I tell them about how far our species has advanced technologically. In the year 1900 if you told people about planes like Concorde they'd laugh straight in your face! Also, you'd be branded a lunatic if you spoke of things such as the Internet, organ transplants, a successful manned voyage to the Moon, microwave ovens, and plasma T.V.s but all of these things have happened. We've been flying for a little over a century, have had T.V. for less than 6 decades, and have had mainstream access to the 'Net for less than 2. Head-jack computers are not that farcical. Also, with the power of computers doubling in under 2 years, the power of a computer will be massive and exponentially increased compared to the primitive things we are using now. Nanotechnology is already being utilized and will only gain more power and usage as the years go by. Not only that, genetic modification WILL be used on humans, first to weed out deformities and then to give humans special abilities and enhanced traits. They've done it to other animals and plants, who is to say they won't do it to humans? Its already possible to do in vitro fertilization and choose the sex of your child and it won't be long until other traits are available. Imagine a doctor saying something like "Want a stocky, black-haired kid with an I.Q. through the roof and eyes like a hawk? Coming right up, Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Now relaize that something like that will most likely occur before the end of the century.

Jacob 02-25-2004 12:28 PM

'This reminds me of Half-Life 2'

Don't you mean 'Deus Ex'?

'They've done it to other animals and plants, who is to say they won't do it to humans?'

The Christian Fundamentalists will. They're always crying about something and they will put a stop to such things. Especially Bush. 'cos Bush is a twat. Personally i want Bio-Engineering to come along, thats the only way i can make my perfect child [black hair, green eyes, slim, clever, sociable etc]. And the only way to weed out the foul cretins that pollute the world now...

Abe's son 02-25-2004 01:46 PM

If only Peizochem was real...

Try the Iron Hand treatment.

Makes your hands like Iron. For real... You practicly wont be able to hurt your kunckles...

Statikk HDM 02-26-2004 05:24 AM

Sorry, meant Deus Ex series. Man, what a slip, I even own that game! Another thing, people see these "Fundamentalists" as power-wielding insaniacs who will use any technique to succeed and probably will succeed. Nothing is further from the truth. These people are a dying breed and their power is slowly fading away. Same with the "Religious Right." People, these aren't omnipotent boogey men, they're just labels. It embarrasses me when these terms are thrown around to scare people.

Loup Garou 03-06-2004 11:47 AM

So, let's pretend that this bio-engineering thing is on the top now, right? And a doctor offers you a surgery that will improve your body in anyway possible. The surgery costs as much as a car do, but it's worth the money. You can only afford to improve ONE thing on your body; for example inproved strenght, agility, intelligence, eyes like an eagle or anything. What would you improve?

I would never be sick. Cos, in that way I wouldn't have asthma or a regular cold again. I hate it, I hate it so very very much.

Sekto Springs 03-06-2004 12:41 PM

Well, I wouldn't bother spending money on anything that doesn't prevent death.

Fez 03-07-2004 01:10 AM

Nanomchines, i saw a tv program about it. They could help us live forever.

Jacob 03-07-2004 09:10 AM

I wouldn't like to live forever, i can't wait to die. But in theory i would make myself thooper-hard. So nothing could penetrate my skin. If i couldn't have that however, i'd settle with thooper-agility.

Statikk HDM 03-08-2004 05:39 AM

Me, I'd jack my immune system to about 100,000 times as powerful as it is right now. I'd die eventually but at least it wouldn't be from a debilitating illness. Plus, if I ever get cut or shot my body could repair itself in a snap.

Strike Witch 03-12-2004 12:42 AM

I don't know about nanomachines. What about EMPs?

I wanna make a Panther-Human Hybrid. That would be cool.

(The Crazy and just plain messed up) Ghost.

P.S. I don't wanna live forever. Boring!

Fez 03-12-2004 10:09 AM

Ghost, do you have any idea what an EMP is? Electro Magnetic Pulse. They are used to stop electrical things from working! if one went off in your house, nothing would work.

If you meant what effect your EMP's have on a person with nano-machines in them, they would probably go back to normal humans. It wouldnt kill them.
