Reputation
As we are now in the enlightened Age of VB3, I think it was time we took advantage of some of the new options available to us.
What I propose is that we use the Reputation system to group users into different usergroups with various permissions, such as customs titles, fancy names and the like. But to stop people using this system as a weapon I think that only the Staff and some seleted, respected members will get the option to grade a post/thread. That way the people who deserve a reward will get one, and those who deserve punishment will get it dished out to them. Opinions? Questions? |
I never liked reputation systems. They always have negative results. Besides, how could you distinguish "respected" members from "non-respected" ones? I mean, one member may be respected by some, and despised by just as many.
I do like custom titles, though. However, most people complain that new members will spam to make their post count high enough to recieve one. Is there a way to reward custom titles on the basis of how long a member has been active? |

The idea was intended to just rate a post on whether it was a good conrtibution or if it was spam and the like, not the actual post's contents. So in theory the person posting it shouldn't matter, but we are all only human (with the possible exception of Peter) |
Well, I still don't like the idea. I poke you in the eye.
|
I've seen this work very well in certain other places, but I've never liked the idea so I'm against. No particular reason really, I just don't like it.

It sounds... complicated...ish.
Yup. There's my argument. No side, but good, sound reasoning. Give me a cookie now. |

I'm a member of DDRUK.com
In this forum you earn points for each day you post, or by doing nice things. You use these points to choose your banner (which is where the av's are on this site.) I'm not the biggest fan of ranking, because it creates a reason to flame ("I'm better than you. HA, HA!" 'I'm gonna send you a virus you little [censored] of a [censored]') I guess if you did something similar (again from DDRUK) and gave each member a level (High-supream ruler;Registered;Warned;Dangerously-close-to-removal) it might work a little better, although I can't see what would make an adequit reward or punishment (it should be ridiculously hard to go up a level, so a 2 week ban would only be the start. After that you'd have to be put into a lower standard of membership) Well, that's all I have to say. I'm happy with things the way they are, exept that I haven't earned a custom title yet |
:
Lower Flood Post rate (More posts/ minute or hour) Bigger PM box Bigger Sig/ Avatar allowences (Though I doubt they'll get much bigger than they are now) Custom Title Usergroup only forums (Forums that are only open to a group of people ina certain usergroup) Respect from Staff (Not guarenteed) Possible Punishments: Crap Custom Titles (Yet To Evolve and the like) Post count reset |
Possible Rewards: Get promoted to Uber L33t Mod.
Heheh Just jking ;) Anyways would be a good system if humans weren't selfish little bastards ^^ |
The "usergroup" areas wouldn't be a good idea in my view.
Once you start splitting people, you end up with factions - and factions will end up fighting. This forum already had one "big argument"... which I know nothing about and should probably stop mentioning. We don't need a cast system that may result in rebelious behavior |

How about recognization of the forum vets? Also, TDH ( www.thedigitalhangout.com ) has the reputation system. It just use's a badge that change's color occording to how good you are in manner of a person and a poster. Gold is the best, and well...we have no one under silver.

Badges sound pretty good. They're small, descrete, and (in essence) an accessory!
It's not DIVIDEING, it's just RATING |
I think that this system is a bit unfair but then again I don't know much about it to make a proper judgement, but it seems unfair from what I have heard.
