Ed Fries leaves Microsoft
Noticed this on RPG Fan when I was looking around there today...
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2004/1038.html I wonder how this will affect Oddworld's relationship with Microsoft, seeing that Ed Fries had a lot to do with liasing between the two companies, and we all remember seeing him on the X-Factor special ... where he was giving the opinions on Lorne's concepts for the next title. Abe Babe... |
I allready saw it some days ago, but, is that such a change for OWI? It's Mr.Games' job to have close relations with the game devloppers. The next Mr.Game will have the same relations I suppose. Not a big deal,is it?
|
Awww, that's sad from my point of view: I liked Ed, he seemed like a great guy. But then I guess so much of what goes on does, will, and perhaps should remain behind the scenes. I hope OWI doesn't suffer as a result of this, but then again I hope nobody does. Good fortune to all parties involved.
|
I liked Ed a bit, but I thinnk he put a little too much pressure for Oddworld to come out this time around with a different style game (not thats bad and all ;). I like so far what we have seen about Stranger, and such, but I just want to see ME made sometime in the future also.
|
Ahhh, I liked Ed. He seemed cool. He also gave OWI good compliments. Too ambitious is better than not being amibitious enough, as Lorne said. Anywho, I hope the next guy is nice to OWI.

Same here mann! I hope we don't get an idiot running the seat inwhich Ed had. If you know what I mean.
|
Yeah, I do hope they choose well, its going to be hard to fill the shoes of someone who was working at microsoft for 18 years, and actually liked games a lot.
I just dont want it to be someone that oddworld cant get through with otherwise Im afraid we will be in for another platform switch. :fuzsad: |
damn, this is just like those damn movies, the guy we like leaves and he gets replaced with some royal corporate ax-hole who puckers up tighter then a ***** when people ask him for more funding/money for their ideas.
I hope it doesn't end up that way! |
I thought he was cool :) But I don't know if that will change Oddworld so much.
I didn't really like the look of Steef, but I don't know.... Did that guy have that much to do with the change of style of the game? ~Miss Odd Serenity |
Here's how it works to the best of my knowledge. OWI pitches an idea to Microsoft by meeting with Ed. If Ed likes the idea, he gives the project the green light and the VG gets funded by Microsoft. Maybe if Ed doesn't like an aspect of the game and thinks it won't spark an interest in gamers, he might make suggestions, but he isn't responsible for game design.

Well, I guess we all will just have to wait and see who replaces him. Hopefully it wont be like SS worst case scenario would be.

If he were there(MS), he would contribute efforts to the prosperity of OWI more. Is it Ok? |
Dunno who Ed is, but if he's ur pal, he's mine too. Any involvement with OW is good.
|
lol SS...
the next Mr.Games has to love games and quality, if he don't, he isn't a true Mr.Games :D |
