Oddword Forums goes vBulletin3

If you are seeing this ... you are now at our new Oddworld Forums. You will probably notice a few changes around ... a few extras, etc.

We have decided to open the forums with Sydney's Munch's Oddysee theme, as this theme is easy to set up. The Honeybee Theme will come after that. Then over the next week I will be getting the native and industrial styles done. These take a lot more work ... plus I'll be improving the native theme quite a bit. This means for those of you that want simple no frills themes ... choose Sydney's ones. For those that like something a bit more fancy, then industrial and native are for you.

There might still be a few things out of place ... I'm getting to these tonight. Peter has done all the back-end stuff ... database transfers, all that kind of thing. But as for posting, you may post to your heart's content.

If you have any questions or comments, please post them here ... and thank you for being patient with us over this time.

Yep, we're finally done :)

As stated you'll notice some quirks in the style, so don't be afraid to notify us using this thread.

 Nice going!!

paramiteabe 01-13-2004 04:12 AM

Sweet this is nice the only question I have though is where do you go to change the theme? Because I only see a plain white design. Also I can't send PM's to people. Everytime I try to send a PM it says I have too many characters in the text as an error. Other than that I love the smooth running of V3. Its quick and nice. hmm?

Alcar 01-13-2004 05:35 AM

Hmmmm... That is weird, paramiteabe. The only style available for use is the Munch's Oddysee style. Sounds like a browser problem, though, it worked for the old OWF.

Regarding the PM problem. It should be fixed now, it was my fault, as I'd mixed up a setting for another, and thus inputted the wrong information.

Hobo 01-13-2004 05:55 AM

Good job you two....I'm loving the speed around this place.

paramiteabe 01-13-2004 05:56 AM

Thanks Alcar everything is working now. Now I see the Munch design. Actually I was on a library computer two different computers from my own so I dunno. Anyway at least it works now.

I love V3 for its quickness and plus the new options as MOD. This is awesome I think I am going to stick with the Munch when you put the two others in. Because it remindes me of the good old days of OWF. So the PM should work now right?

I just typed out a load of stuff, but then vB3 deleted it. In a fit of uncontrollable rage, I am now deliberately not going to post in this thread usefully. Take that, annoying glitch.

But I will say I appreciate all your work on the Forums - you're a fine team.

Xavier 01-13-2004 07:44 AM

good... lots of sweet features!
I just don't like this old skin

Cloverfield 01-13-2004 08:06 AM

I'm going to aim at working on getting the Industrial and Native skins up on the weekend. I really don't know how long they'll take me ... but basically I have to do them from scratch again [well Industrial anyways] as the template import from vBulletin 2 to 3 does not carry over any fancy formatting. Actually it doesn't seem to carry over much at all.

Hobo 01-13-2004 08:23 AM

Hurray for Profile Pictures and increased avatar size!

Adder 01-13-2004 09:47 AM

ahh...... *jumps into his old seat*

Glad to be back at a fimiliar URL.

So... which theme is the "quick loading" one that was promissed??

oddguy 01-13-2004 10:01 AM

Oh, baby!

It all seems very 'quick loading' to mwah. :fuzwink: Nice work you guys. This is real fun. I'm not used to everything here, but I like figuring it out. It's like playing with a new toy...or something like that. Anywho, I can't wait for the other templates...this one doesn't suit me, but I'm not complaining. All your guys work here looks lovely.

Boing! This is sweet! Hurrah for the new forums!

SeaRex 01-13-2004 11:15 AM

Ah lookit! It goes fast again.

Maximum pwnage. Let us all rejoice.

Al the Vykker 01-13-2004 03:40 PM

Yes, Im running at 200% now. Things are so much faster, and Im just taking in all the new features! :) I also like being able to have the old setup for us "old" cane walkers of the forums. :p

So does this mean I can finally get my custom title? I guess I just have to think up what I was thinking of.

Anyways time to make a bigger avatar, looks at hobo's new picture. ;)

Alcar 01-13-2004 04:11 PM

I have added an option for users to pick whether or not they want to display the top or left postbit style. It is defaulted to Left, but you can change it by going into your UserCP and editing your options.

The setting is under "Postbit Layout". I decided to add it, as it is the default vB3 postbit, and the kind staff at vBulletin provided us with this easy hack :)

This one ... it's basic. :p

Ah, make more work for me why don't you. Will be interesting getting that new style working with the industrial and native layouts. But I think there are two different postbits to edit ... so it shouldn't be too difficult ... just some nice re-designing work. ;)

We might also need to see if there is a hack to shorten the length of the titles on the last post section on the main page [or I can use some HTML code to make it wrap I guess] ... on my smaller resolution here at work it looks odd with a squished description page and a really wide last post column ... I'd hate to imagine what it's like for the 800x600 people.

I just added the Honeybee theme. Didn't take long, as it's mostly the same as the Munch's Oddysee theme ... except a few color changes.

The buttons kind of look to be a different shade of yellow, so I might need to fix that.

Abe Babe...

Alcar 01-15-2004 02:16 AM

Lookin' good :)

I'll probably use the HoneyBee Style for the time being.

Alcar...

paramiteabe 01-15-2004 04:14 AM

I have question was the Honey Bee styal the very first skin used way back in the beginning when this place was started?

I mean I am old here but I wasn't one of the first members here. I was more like one of the second generation members here.

No, on the EzBoard OWF there were other styles. I actually have some pictures of the old styles, which I'll gladly attach.

Alcar...

Cloverfield 01-15-2004 05:04 AM

There were three more before then ... but they were all on the original ezBoard that Oddworld Forums [originally known as Oddworldian Forums] ran from. The Honeybee style was the first one we implimented when we had UBB forums.

- A reddish/brownish style with white background
- A bluish style with white background
- A yellowish/brownish style, which I think was the "real" honeybee style. It had this logo:

http://216.101.14.114/forums_old/ubb...forums_old.gif

I don't know if I have images from the other ones ... if I do, they'll be on my old computer which has a bunch of old stuff saved on the second hard drive.

I'm not sure if Sydney had any earlier styles before I joined the forums.

Abe Babe...

Edit: Peter, you always post the same time as me lately. You weren't even on OWF back in those days were you? Anyways, that header went with the last image Peter posted.

paramiteabe 01-15-2004 05:49 AM

Thats cool so you guys must have gone through so many skins in the beginning eh!

I defnetly started on the UBB forums after EZ-Board

atusiya@ 01-15-2004 06:31 AM
