Munch in realtime

Hey did you ever notice that in the first real time videos and screens of MO on PS2 we never got to see munch. Or did we? Why?

The first pre-rendered videos released for Munch's Oddysee were not done on PS2 - Oddworld Inhabitants held back from even going near the machine for as long as possible, because they knew there was always the chance they wanted to move to another console.

As for there being no Munch, I'd guess they were just trying to with-hold the excitement of seeing Munch, prefering instead to demonstrate how gameplay would be transfered from 2D environments to 3D, and how the environments themselves would operate. Maybe they hadn't sorted out a definite version of Munch, but then that wouldn't make sense, considering there were 3 other types of Fuzzles we saw before the current ones.

But if they held back from any game platform, why was MO so bad? They say most of it was bad because of the quick move to xbox, but now you say that the weren't sure on a system. Did you mean that they new they would put it on ps2 but didn't have much t do with the actual system just incase?

:

We generally develop independent of platform. It takes us about a month to move from our development environment to the specific environment of any given platform. This lets us keep our options open. As far as the target platform for Munch is concerned, all I can say is that the situation is still fluid, and I'm not privy to the latest details. In the meantime, development work on the game continues without delay, and isn't influenced by target platform considerations, nor will it be until we're very close to completion.

That's all I know, I'm afraid. I've yet to see where OWI specifically blame the disappointment of the game on moving system. They seem more intent on blaming telling us so much in the first place, which is silly, because you'd assume that if they told us what was planned to be in it, they could tell us what wouldn't, in fact, make it, instead of leaving it as a surprise to the very last moment - i.e. when we played the game.

In any case, we know they did actually start working on the PS2, because in retrospect they kept mentioning how difficult is was to work for. I doubt everything from Meetles to Mudflubs, cities to towers, controlable vehicles to interactive environments was excluded purely at the stage when they started devloping for Xbox.
